SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS IN THE MIDDLE AND LATE


ADOLESCENCE
You get to know more about yourself through meaningful interactions with
others. Giving feedback is an important mechanism for improvement.

GIVING FEEDBACK RECEIVING FEEDBACK


1. Be clear with your intention. 1. Listen well.
2. Observe good timing. 2. Think carefully.
3. Be kind in your words. 3. React positively.
4. Be specific. 4. Be grateful.
Bill Gates~ a great computer business magnate and philanthropist, he points out
that “We All Need People Who Will Give Us Feedback. That Is How We Improve.”

SOCIAL GROUPS
 Refers to two or more people who interact with one another and refer to
themselves as a social unit.
Different Social Groups:

 Primary Group~ personal or intimate in nature, the interaction is regular


and the bond usually lasts for a long time.
 Secondary Group~ task-oriented and dynamics is less personal. The
members stays together for a limited or determine time until the task are
accomplished.
 The Norm~ reference group to which you base your assessment. The
group has its rules of behaviour which the members follow.

PEER RELATIONS
 Friendship~ one of the most important and meaningful interpersonal
connections you have.
 Cliques~ more tight and intense groupings than friendship. It is an
exclusive group whose member that interacts more intensely to relative
exclusion of others who are non members.

SOCIAL INFLUENCES
 “How others affects us” > it is a phenomenon that occurs when your
behaviours, ways of thinking, feelings are affected by others or vice-versa.

 Conformity~ act of adjusting your behaviours, opinions or belief to


agree with the prevailing norm or standard.
 Compliance~ occurs when an individual give in or agrees with the
other person or group.

 Identification~ when a respectable, famous or well-liked person


exerts great influences on others.
 Obedience~ an act of following authority figures.

LEADERS AND FOLLOWERS
“A Leader needs Followers: Followers need a Leader”
Types of Leadership:
 Conservative
 Democratic
 Task-Oriented
 People-Oriented
 Situational Leader
Qualities of a Good Leader:
 Has integrity.
 Has clear vision and goals for the group.
 Communicates ideas very well.
 Concerned with other’s personal development and growth.
 Effectively motivates and support the groups.
 Focuses on the groups’ strength, needs and interests.

Qualities of a Good Team Player:


 Understands the group’s goal and expectations.
 Uses her/his skills and talents that will contribute to the
accomplishment of the given tasks.
 Cooperates with the group.
 Observe respect for other words and action.
 Manage time well
 Leading the group towards the completion of tasks on schedule.
