intended for use in the occupational environment.

PVC CORFLUTE
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a rigid plastic Corflute is manufactured from 3.3mm

UNDERSTANDING DANGER SIGNS

The messages on Danger’ signs are confined to the warning of a hazard which is likely to be life threatening. Due
to this threat, specific layout and sizing requirements are included in AS/NZS 1319:1994.
Danger signs have a special design which incorporates the

word DANGER in white letters on a red symbolic oval shape.
The signs comprise a white rectangle with a black enclosure

The legend within the white rectangle shall compromise a

worded warning message in black letters. Symbols are not
used on Danger’ signs.
Please note:
If a symbolic sign is required in conjunction with a ‘Danger’
sign, it will need to be on a separate sign placed beside or
below the ‘Danger’ sign.
VIEWING GUIDE
Signs need to be large enough to be seen without straining the eyes when communicating safety messages
to employees and visitors.

Helpful hints - Sign location

Visibility - Signs should be located where the messages are legible,
so that they attract the attention of, and are clearly visible to all
concerned.
Visibility will be enhanced if a contrast exists between the
predominant colour of the sign and that of its surroundings, e.g. a
green sign which of necessity has to be placed on a green wall, will be
rendered more distinct if it has a white surround.
The sign mounting location should be somewhere that the possibility
of the sign becoming obscured by stacked materials or other visual

Siting of Signs - Signs should be mounted as close as practicable to
the observer’s line of sight in the vertical plane. For a standing adult
this will be approximately 5 degrees up or down from a point 1500mm
above ground or floor level in front of the observer.
Signs which are free standing or mounted overhead shall be placed so
that they are not a hazard to pedestrians.
Regulatory and hazard signs - Signs should be sited in relation to a

particular hazard to allow a person enough time after first viewing the
signs to pay attention to the warning.
This distance will vary, e.g. signs warning against the touching of
switches or other electrical equipment should be placed close to the
equipment, whereas signs used in plants, yards or construction work
should be placed sufficiently in advance of the hazard to permit the
warning to be perceived before the hazard is reached.

Helpful hints - where to put your

Hazchem sign
Signs need to be placed close to where the hazardous substances are
stored, but not too close, because people need to know that the danger is
there before it’s too late.
Don’t put your signs:
- Where they may be hidden
- Beside doors or gates that may cover the sign temporarily
- Above doors, or anywhere smoke may conceal the sign.
The location of your signs will depend on what hazardous substances
you may have and where you keep them.
- When hazardous substances are held inside a building, place Hazchem
signs at all entrances to the building.

Reflective Temporary Stock Hazard Signs

Our hazard signs adhere to the NZTA standards for temporary stock relocation signs (W3-4.1 Cattle, W3-4.2
Sheep, W2-1A Other Hazard). These signs should be used where stock crosses or travels at short distances
along the road where they can be seen as a traffic hazard.
If moving stock across a road is a daily occurrence, a permanent sign should be fixed on the road. These
signs are to be used on level 1 roads (less than 10,00 vehicles per day in a rural environment).
They are made from an aluminium material backing with a reflective front. Can be purchased individually or
as a package with a stand and base.
