–Maguindanao, May, 2018 “GONADAL DEVELOPMENT OF WHITE GOBY
(Glossogobiusgiuris) IN LAKE BULUAN MAGUINDANAO”.

This research seeks to determine the gonadal development of white goby (Glossogobius

giuris) in Lake Buluan, Maguindanao for the period of four (4) months, from November 2017 to

February 2018. It also seeks to assess the fecundity and size at maturity of the said species. A

total of 125 samples of white goby with sizes ranging from 13.3cm to19cm were randomly

collected from Lake Buluan, Maguindanao and were used for the gonad assessment. The fish

length and weight was measured using a vernier calliper and a digital weighing scale

respectively. The fecundity was determined using aliquot sampling. and the gonad assessment

was based from Rieker (1975).

Results showed that the mature fish length ranges from 18cm to 19 cm, body weight of

approximately 18 to 23 grams and average fecundity of 23,461 eggs. Smaller fish is less fecund

than larger fish. The fecundity therefore depends on the size of the female. Findings based on the

data also revealed that within the four (4) months survey period, a great proportion of matured

samples (i.e. stage V samples) were mostly collected during the month of February which also

shows to be the spawning period of Glossogobius giuris

The study on gonadal assessment of fish are important and basic requirement for

improvement and effective fishery resources management and conservation, it is also useful in

determining life- history information and assessing the impacts of environment variability on the

dynamics of fish populations.
