Answer all Questions
Part - A (10 x 2 = 20 marks)
1. Recall the principle of transmisibility of force. [COl,Kl]

2. A circular roller of weight 1000 N and radius 20 cm hangs by a tie rod AB= 40 cm and [COI,K3l

rests against a smooth vertical wall at C as shown in figure. Determine the tension in
the rod and reaction at point C.

3. Relate the necessary and sufficient conditions applied for equilibrium of concurrent and {C02,K21
non concurrent forces in space.
4. Replace the force 3000 N from point A by equivalent force couple at B. [C02,K3]

7. Determine the frictional force developed on the block shown in figure when P = 40N, [C04,K4]

10. A flywheel has mass moment of inertia of 10 kgm 2 about the axis of rotation. It runs
with a speed of 300 rpm. Find the kinetic energy of the fly wheel when it diameter is
0.3 m.

Part - B (5 x 13 = 65 marks)
11. a. i) Resolve the given forces and find the resultant force at A. (9) [C01,K5]

ii) Determine the magnitude and direction of the smallest force F which (4) rcoi, K4J
will maintain the package shown in equilibrium. Note that the force
exerted by the rollers on the package is perpendicular to the incline.

attached to the top of a vertical wall. A horizontal force P perpendicular to the
wall holds the cylinder in the position shown. Determine the magnitude of P
and the tension in each cable.

A block of mass 150 kg is raised by a 10 wedge weighting 50 kg under it and
by applying a horizontal force P as shown in figure. Taking coefficient of
friction between all surfaces of contact as 0.3. find what minimum force
should be applied to raise the block.

b. i) A motorist is travelling at 90 kmph, when he observes a traffic light 250 (7) [C04,K3]
m ahead of him turns red. The traffic light is timed to stay red for 12
seconds. If the motorist wishes to pass the light without stopping just as
it turns green. Determine
1) The required uniform deceleration of the motor cycle.
2) The speed of the motor cycle as it passes the t:r:_affic light.

15. a. Two blocks of mass 20 kg and 40 kg are connected by a rope passing over a (13) rco5, K3J
friction less pulley as shown in fig. Assume coefficing of friction as 0.3 for all
contact surfaces. Find the tension in the rope, acceleration of the system. Also
compute velocity of the system after 4 seconds starting from rest.
