10 Little Rubber Ducks
Thank you for downloading this resource! I hope it provides some fun
ways to practice counting and number recognition to 10. You can use this
resource on it’s own, but I suggest using these games along with the book
10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle. J

How Many Rubber Ducks? Ten Frame Counting Cards:

To prepare these counting mats, print on card stock paper and laminate.
Then cut apart to use with a dry erase marker. Students then count the
rubber ducks and trace the number words and numeral on each mat.

If you have some toy rubber ducks, kids can also count out ducks to match
the number shown on their mat for added practice. You could also use the
rubber duck cards at the end of this download for kids to count and match
to these mats.

10 Little Rubber Ducks: Count to 10 Game

Included in this game are 4 different game boards. Print and laminate
these boards for durability. Each player will need their own ‘bathtub’ mat.
You will also need to print the directions/spinner page and the rubber ducky
cards. I suggest laminating these materials as well, so you can use them
again and again. Cut apart the rubber ducky cards and place in a pile in the
center of the game, along with the spinner.

To Play: Using a pencil and paperclip as the spinner, kids take turns spinning
to add or take away ducks from their bathtub. If they land on a picture of
rubber ducks, they add that many to their game board (1, 2 or 3). If they
land on an ‘Uh oh!’ space, they have to remove 2, 3 or all their rubber ducks
from the tub and put them back into the pile.

The first player to reach exactly 10 rubber ducks wins!

Note: While playing, kids can practice making ten by determining how many
are needed to win. If your kids are ready, they could also record equations
as they play to show how they reached 10. For example, if they start by
adding 2 to their mat, they would write 0 + 2 = 2. Then on their next turn, if
they land on 3, they would write 2 + 3 = 5, etc.
