Incineration is a process for burning waste at high temperatures of around 800°C, releasing heat energy, gases, and inert ash. About 65-80% of the organic matter's energy can be recovered as heat energy and used for direct thermal applications or power generation. There are several types of incinerators including moving grate, fixed grate, rotary-kiln, and fluidized bed. The rotary-kiln incinerator commonly used by municipalities and large industries has two chambers - a primary chamber where waste is treated and volatilized, and a secondary chamber where combustion of the volatile fraction is completed.

● Incineration is the process of direct controlled burning of
waste in the presence of oxygen at temperatures of about 8000C and above, liberating heat energy, gases and inert ash. Net energy yield depends upon the density and composition of the waste. Relative percentage of moisture and inert materials, which add to the heat loss; ignition temperature; size and shape of the constituents; design of the combustion system, etc.
● In practice, about 65 to 80% of the energy content of the
organic matter can be recovered as heat energy, which can be utilised either for direct thermal applications, or for producing power with the help of steam turbine-generators. ● TYPES OF INCINERATORS:
Moving Grate
Fixed Grate
Rotary-kiln
Fluidized Bed Rotary-kiln Incinerator
Used by Municipalities and by large industrial plants
Design of incinerator(Rotary-kiln type) has two Chambers Primary Chamber Secondary Chamber A Primary chamber, where the waste is treated and volatilized and A secondary chamber, where combustion of the volatile fraction is completed. From the primary chamber, burned ash if colllected & disposed off & from the secondary chamber, first the flue
