1 Purpose of the Method Statement
The purpose of this methodology is to provide a systematic control and direction for the activity for
the demolition of 2 old buildings at MT. This method statement provides the expectation to execute
work in safe, eco-friendly manner and in compliance to the ADCO HSE and Quality Requirements.

2 Scope of Works
2.1 Scope

Demolition of utility RO shed and warehouse at MT.


2.2 Description of Activity (ies) to be undertaken

1) Before the work commencement a live line has to be fixed at the roof of buildings to be used for
safety harnesses tying .
2)Disconnect for all roofs bolts,secrews,fasteners .
3)Remove the steel structure of roofs.
4)Remove all glass windows, doors, sinks, toilets, ac units etc before main demolition starts.
5)Demolition will start from the roof down using hydraulic breaker, electrical hand breaker and long
reach mechanical excavator where it is required.
6)Removal of building rubble to a designated site (dump site south side of storage terminal) .Using
lorry truck and dozer/shovel .Protection of plants and trees close to the buildings have to be in place
to avoid damage.
7)Plant traffic plan will be in place for the truck routes with the operation traffic and pedestrians
taken into consideration.
8)Dust control measures will be taken as a self-evident by water spraying and soil wetting.
9The office and fire station have to be demolished last.
10)Grading and housekeeping.
11)The ground has to be re-instated and dressed and covered by gravel once all demolition waste
have been removed.

2.4 Isolation/Segregation of Existing Infrastructure
Isolate all the electrical cables, service water pipes and firefighting network in addition to all
underground services.

3 Personnel and Responsibilities


3.1 Construction Manager:
The Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring that the requirements of this method
statement are properly implemented. The Construction Manager is also responsible for safe
performance of the work.

3.2 Supervisor:
The Supervisor shall be responsible for controlling the manpower in accordance with the site
supervisor‘s instructions, to ensure that the qualified workers with right tools are assigned to each
work post.

He shall be responsible for implementation of the work in accordance with Al Bilal Health, Safety
and Environmental plans and procedures, method statements and requirements stipulated by Job
Hazard Analysis. He shall participate in the specific tool box talks and ensure participation of the
work team as well. He shall also be responsible for the use of correct personnel protective
equipment at all times.

3.3 HSE Adviser:


The HSE Adviser shall be responsible for advsing the manpower on HSE aspects to ensure their
safety. HSE adviser will support tool box talks, ensure adequate barricades and signage are in place.
Ensure all equipment has been inspected and color coded according to procedures. Also ensure that
appropriate safey measures are taken as per the JHA,rescue plan as well . Ensure that all staff
adhere to the HSE Plan and HSE requrments.

3.4 Work Team:


The work team shall be responsible to work in accordance with the procedures, Al Bilal training
and safe Methods of work communicated to them by their direct supervision, ensuring that the best
industrial practices are adopted and maintained at all times. They shall be responsible to use
correct tools and personal protective equipment and to participate in the daily tool box talks.

4 Resources
4.1 Personnel
Around 30 guys shall be deputed to carry out this work.

4.2 Plant and Equipment


2 hydraulic breaker, 1 mechanical excavator,3 dump truck ,water tanker ,rubber compactor and 1
loading shovel and triptruck.
5 Execution of Works
5.1 PTW Issuance

A Hot Work permit will be issued to carry out the works, along with approved method
statement, JHA and isolation certificates.

5.2 Safety Setup

 Arrange the required safety signs, barricades and other related safety precautions
Highlighted in the JHA, isolation certificate and permit prior to the commencement.
 Demolition area to be barricaded to prevent access to other personnel .Signage to be

 The works shall only commence after the job supervisor has checked and ensured that all
safety precautions and safety requirements are in place.
 Ensure workers understand the hazards and control measures related to the critical
activities, i.e. lifting, welding, Line of Fire.
 Qualified First Aider must be on site and identified by a sticker on his helmet.
 Display Emergency Contact number on site.

5.3 Site Works

5.3.1 before commencing

Before commencing work, check the following: 


(a) All openings and elevated free edges are properly guarded 
(b) Any temporary bracing, shoring, or propping is tight, stable and secure.
(c)
(b) All fire and safety services are operational and all other services to the working 
level have been properly disconnected. 

5.3.2Before leaving

(a) All partly demolished elements are stabilized. 


(b) All demolished materials have been removed or secured against inclement weather.

(c) All fires or embers have been properly extinguished. 
(d) All public thoroughfares are clear of demolished materials and any hazard is properly lit.

(e) Lines of communication to the supervisor are clear and operational. 
