Teaching without Talking Lesson Plan

Justin Thornton, Annabelle Porter, Dalton Eppard

Objectives​:

● Students will match pitched while humming “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” with a
piano
● Students will articulate with the syllable “do” with a piano
● Students will buzz “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” on a trumpet mouthpiece with a
piano

Procedures:

The students will...


● Sit in a chair facing the teacher, with good posture
● Listen while the teacher demonstrates, going two measures at a time
● Repeat the teacher when signaled to
● Do this with humming, articulating with the syllable “do”, and buzzing
● Buzz the whole song with the teacher playing piano

Assessment:
● When playing piano with them, I will listen to hear if they can correctly match
pitches
● Listen for a good articulation, and demonstrate how if needed
● Listen for a good buzzing sound with good articulation. The goal is to get a sound
out and hear what they can match pitches.

Standards:
● EI.11 The student will demonstrate proper instrumental techniques, including
○ 2. production of tones that are clear, free of tension, and sustained;
○ 3. wind student—proper breathing techniques and embouchure; contrasting
articulations (tonguing, slurring, staccato, accent);
● EI.14 The student will begin to use articulations and dynamic contrasts as means of
expression
