YHWH (‫ יהוה‬YHWH, Strong's #3068): Virtually all translations from Judaism and
Christianity use "the LORD" for the Hebrew name of God – YHWH. The original
pronunciation of the name can never be determined with complete accuracy but in
Hebraic thought it is the meaning of a name that is more important than its
pronunciation. The Hebrew YHWH is the verb hawah meaning "to exist" with the
prefix y meaning "he." Therefore, the word YHWH means "he exists."

Here is Chaazawan's comment from the video about the meaning and
pronunciation of Yahawah.

"Now, let's take a closer look at the name Yahawah. This is from the
website Ancient-Hebrew.org. The address is on the top right hand corner.
"Now, this website doesn't actually deal with the ancient Hebrew, but I want
you to see what they say about the Most High's name. This is unbelievable.
Right here it says Y H W H, so this is dealing with the Most High's name. It
says:

"capitol L O R D",

'for the Hebrew name of God, Y H W H.'

"Now, watch this, it says,

'...The original pronunciation of the name can never be determined with

"Right? But, watch what he says next. It says,

"Ok, so, how do you say "he exists" in Hebrew?


Yahawah. Ya means He, Hawah means Exist, Yahawah, He Exists.

"That's why I said this is unbelievable. How can you say the name can't be
determined with complete accuracy when we know how to say it?

"Ya is He, Hawah is Exist – Yahawah – He Exists. That's the Most High's
name."

If, without vowels, the transliteration of ‫( י‬yod) is "y" and the transliteration
of ‫( ה ו ה‬heh wah heh) is "h w h", and if the transliteration of h w h with
two a(ah) vowels is hawah as pictured above, and if y + h w h with
three a(ah) vowels is ya + ha wa h and is pronounced ya ha wa h, why
is ‫( יהוה‬yhwh) also transliterated with a, e, o vowels and pronounced Yahweh,
or Yahowah, or Yehowah, or Yahuah, or Yahu, etc.?

In other words, with the "w" transliteration, by adding the y to hwh and adding
an a(ah) vowel to the y, the combined prefix and verb is y+hwh, and, usually
transliterated with three a(ah) vowels as pictured above, ya+hawah is
pronounced Yahawah, not Yehovah or Jehovah or Yahvah or Yahweh, etc.

Jeff Benner is correct in writing that the Hebrew ‫( יהוה‬yhwh) is from the
verb ‫( הוה‬hwh), pronounced hawah with two a(ah) vowels, and it means "to
exist", and the prefix ‫( י‬y) means "he". My conclusion is that ‫הוה‬, hwh, hawah
means that the correct transliteration and pronunciation of ‫( יהוה‬yhwh)
is Yahawah with three a(ah) vowels, not Yahowah or Yahuah or Yahweh.

Here is a question for those who want to transliterate the ‫" ו‬vav" letter
in ‫ יהוה‬with the "v" (and sound) instead of the "w" (and sound) (yhvh instead
of yhwh), and transliterate ‫( יהוה‬yhvh) with three different vowels, a, e, o, and
pronounced ye ho va h.

Why is the transliteration of ‫( ה ו ה‬h v h) changed from the ha va h with


two a(ah) vowels to ho va h with a and o vowels? Why change the vowels
when as a stand alone word ‫( הוה‬h v h) is spelled ha va h?

With the "v" transliteration, by adding the y to hvh and adding an a(ah) vowel
to the y, the combined prefix and verb is y+hvh, and, usually transliterated
with three a(ah) vowels as pictured above, ya+havah is
pronounced Yahavah, not Yehovah or Jehovah or Yahvah or Yahweh, etc.

Here are some comments by Chaazawan about Moses changing the name of
Hawasha‘ (translated in English bibles as Hosea / Hoshea / Oshea) to
Yahawasha‘ (translated as Jehoshua / Joshua). In my commentary I
spell ‫( יהושע‬yhwsh‘) as Yahawasha‘ with the inverted
apostrophe transliteration mark (‘), and spell Hawashi and Yahawashi with
the i letter in correspondence with Chaazawan's pronounciation of ‫ה( הושע‬-‫ו‬-‫ש‬-
‫ ע‬/ h-w-sh-‘) and ‫י( יהושע‬-‫ה‬-‫ו‬-‫ש‬-‫ ע‬/ y-h-w-sh-‘) on the video.
"Now, we know that the Messiah was not Greek. He was a Hebrew Israelite.
So, if he had the same name as Joshua, let's see how to say "Joshua" in
ancient Hebrew. Numbers 13:16. It says:

"Numbers 13:16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy
out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

"Who is Oshea? That was Joshua's original name. Watch. Let's look it up.
Here it is, it's # 1954 and in the Hebrew it says 'ha wa shi' – Hawashi. Now,
what does Hawashi mean? Down here it says, "Hosea or Hoshea or Oshea",
which is Hawashi in the Hebrew; it means "salvation". Letter A says "family
name of Joshua, the son of Nun". So, we see, that Joshua's original name was
Hawashi, which means salvation. But, remember, the verse says "...Moses
called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua". Meaning he changed his name from
Hawashi to something else. Notice, I have Oshea and Jehoshua highlighted.

"We know Oshea is Hawashi. Let's see what he changed his name to. This is
the same verse in Hebrew below it. I have the first name highlighted; it says
Hawashi. What did he change his name to? It says, Yahawashi. All Moses did
is add a Ya, which is [means] he, to the front of Hawashi. So, he changed his
name from Hawashi – salvaton, to Yahawashi – he is salvation. Meaning
Yahawah is salvation. That is the name of the only begotten son – Yahawashi.
He had the same name as Joshua."

Here are two versions of Strong's Concordance to compare the spelling


of ‫ הושע‬as Hawashi with the i letter to transliterate the letter ‫ע‬-ayin or
as Hawasha‘ with the transliteration mark (‘):

Chaazawan makes an excellent point about the change of Hoshea's name:


Moses added only a ‫( י‬yod) to ‫( הושע‬hwsh‘). So, if
the four consonants are ‫ה( הושע‬-‫ו‬-‫ש‬-‫ ע‬/ h-w-sh-
‘), transliterated ha wa sha ‘ with three a(ah) vowels, and only a ‫( י‬y-
yod) consonant is added to produce the five
consonant name ‫יהושע‬, transliterated yhwsh‘ without vowels, how is ‫ יהושע‬to
be transliterated and pronounced? Is it to be transliterated with four a(ah)
vowels and pronounced Yahawasha‘ or transliterated with a, e, o, u vowels
and pronounced Yahoshua or Yehoshua or Jehoshua or Joshua or Yashua or
Yeshua, etc.?

Again, and in other words, if ‫( הושע‬hwsh‘) is hawasha‘ with three a(ah)


vowels and by adding ya with the a(ah) vowel and sound to hawasha‘ the
name becomes yahawasha‘ with four a(ah) vowels, that
obviously means that Yahawasha‘ with four a(ah) vowels is the only correct
pronunciation of ‫( יהושע‬yhwsh‘).

That being a fact of language, not only is Yeshua, etc., not the
correct transliteration and pronunciation, but the very few places
where ‫( יהושע‬yhwsh‘) is written with a second waw (‫ )ו‬between
the shin (‫ )ש‬and the ayin (‫י( )ע‬-‫ה‬-‫ו‬-‫ש‬-‫ו‬-‫ ע‬/ ‫ יהושוע‬/ y-h-w-sh-w-‘ – transliterated
and pronounced Yehoshua with vowel points in the modern Hebrew
dialect and Yahawashawa‘ without vowel points in the older Hebrew
dialect) does not change the language fact that by adding the y (‫)י‬
to ‫( הושע‬hwsh‘) changes ‫( הושע‬hwsh‘ / ha-wa-sha-‘) to ‫( יהושע‬yhwsh‘ / ya-ha-
wa-sh-‘), pronounced Yahawasha‘.

In the video Chaazawan, author and narrator, explains why


he pronounces ‫ יהושע‬/ yhwsh‘ as Yahawashi with only three a(ah) vowels and
the i letter. I mention this because, since there were only consonants from
the pictographic Hebrew alphabet era (+/- 2000 BCE) to the beginning of
the modern Hebrew alphabet era (+/- 300 BCE), it is valid to transliterate and
to pronounce ‫ יהושע‬/ yhwsh‘ as Yahawasha‘ with four a(ah)
vowels and ending with
the fourth a(ah) vowel and sound between ‫ ש‬and ‫( ע‬between sh-shin and ‘-
ayin) by replacing the i letter with the ayin (‫ )ע‬transliteration mark (‘).
The transliteration letter mark (‘) in yhwsh‘ is the usual transliteration of the
Hebrew letter ayin (‫)ע‬, so, in my commentary
I spell ‫ יהושע‬/ yhwsh‘ with four a(ah) vowels as Yahawasha‘ to be consistent
with the transliteration from Hebrew to English. However, in the
transcription of Chaazawan’s video, the transliteration and spelling with
the letter i is retained to correspond with the way Chaazawan
pronounces ‫ יהושע‬/ yhwsh‘ – Yahawashi.
A different perspective by the video transcriber:

Shama‘ or Shami · Yada‘ or Yadai

The picture above from Chaazawan's video shows the spelling of the two
words which end with the Hebrew letter ayin (‫ ) ע‬and the transliteration with
the i vowel letter instead of the consonant transliteration letter mark (‘). The
two glottals, alef (‫ )א‬and ayin (‫)ע‬, do not have transliteration letters such
as g for gimel (‫)ג‬, d for dalet (‫)ד‬, h for heh (‫)ה‬, etc., so, as with the alef (‫ )א‬and
the apostrophe transliteration mark (’), the inverted apostrophe for the
consonant mark (‘) is the appropriate symbol to transliterate ayin (‫)ע‬.

Yadai with the i vowel letter in the picture above is ‫ ידע‬and is transliterated
into English without vowels as yd‘ (y-d-‘ / yod-dalet-ayin) with
the ayin transliteration mark (‘). With two a(ah) vowels and transliteration
mark (‘) it is written yada‘ in English, ending with the a(ah) sound instead of
the i vowel sound. Notice that in the example above, both yadai and shami are
transliterated with the i letter instead of the ayin (‫ )ע‬transliteration mark (‘).

Also, notice two things. First, in the transiterated yadai example (‫ ידע‬to
yd‘ to yadai) with the i vowel, there is a second a(ah) vowel between
the d and the i letters. Second, in the transliterated shami example (‫ שמע‬to
shm‘ to shami), with the i vowel, there is not a second a(ah) vowel between
the m and the i letters. My point is that just as yadai can be spelled with
the a(ah) vowel between the dalet and the ayin, well, so can shami be spelled
with a second a(ah) vowel between the mem and the ayin. This means
that shami (‫ שמע‬/ shm‘) can be spelled as either shamai or shama‘ with
two a(ah) vowels by putting an a(ah) vowel between the
transliterated mem (‫ מ‬- m) and ayin (‫ ע‬- ‘) letters and replacing
the i in shami with the ayin (‫ )ע‬transliteration mark (‘), pronouncing it in
the ancient Hebrew dialect as shama‘, ending with the second a(ah) vowel
and sound instead of the i sound.
In either the ancient Hebrew dialect or the modern Hebrew dialect, ‫ שמע‬should
be transliterated shm‘ with the transliteration mark
(‘). In the ancient Hebrew dialect without vowel points ‫ שמע‬/ shm‘ is pronounc
ed shama‘. In the modern Hebrew dialect with vowel points, and depending on
which vowel points are used, ‫ שמע‬/ shm‘ can be spelled
and pronounced as either shema‘ or shama‘.

Adding four a(ah) vowels in Yahawasha‘ with


the ayin (‫ )ע‬transliteration mark (‘) is similar to adding the a(ah) vowels
between the dalet (‫ ד‬- d) and ayin (‫ ע‬- ‘) letters in yada‘ with
the ayin (‫ )ע‬mark (‘), and adding the second a(ah) vowels between mem (‫ מ‬-
m) and ayin (‫ ע‬- ‘) letters in shama‘ with
the ayin (‫ )ע‬transliteration letter mark (‘).

At the end of his video Chaazawan sign off with:
"I hope somebody got some understanding from this video, and with that I say
shalawam."

Since the ancient Hebrew pictographic and paleo consonants with which
Moses was familiar and the modern Hebrew block / square consonants with
which Yahawasha‘ was familiar were written without vowels, the four
consonants of ‫ש( שלומ‬-sh-shin : ‫ל‬-l-lamed : ‫ו‬-w/v-waw/vav : ‫מ‬-m-mem) are
transliterated shlwm without vowels.
With three natural sound a(ah) vowels shlwm is spelled sha la wa m,
pronounced shalawam, producing the ancient Hebrew dialect.

By adding the modern Hebrew vowel points for two different vowels shlwm is
spelled sha lo m, pronounced shalom, producing the modern Hebrew dialect.

To honor, respect, and not use God's name in "vain", Jewish and Christian
bible publishers use Hashem (theName), Adonai (Master), LORD or
Lord (Master) as placeholders for Yahawah (He Is), the name he said in
Exodus 3:15 (‫ )יהוה‬by which he is to be remembered, and the name in
Numbers 6: 22-27 that he told Moses to tell Aaron and his sons (and all who
follow through the ages) to use when blessing the people.

22 The LORD spoke to Moses:
23 Speak to Aaron and his sons:
Thus shall you bless the people of Israel.
Say to them:
24 The LORD bless you and protect you!
25 The LORD f-deal kindly and graciously with you!-f
26 The LORD g-bestow his favor-g upon you and grant you peace!h
27 Thus they shall link My name with the people of Israel, and I will bless
them.
