BE : Project Synopsis
Sphero Droid
Different drives are available from wind driven spherical robots to Internal Drive Units
(IDU) robots. The wind driven robots generate very less amount of torque for
themselves. This makes it difficult for the robot to overcome obstacles and climb
uphill. Therefore, this project focuses on use of spherical robots on flat surfaces.
Block Diagram
Applications:
Indoor or outdoor navigation
Security tasks and human development
Can operate even in the hazardous or dirty environment
Provides quick mobility
Has well sealed structure to prevent any harm to circuits and working
components
Advantages:
Spherical shape of the robot is easy to roll, accurate actuation and control.
Compact and Encapsulated structure
Full capability to recover from collisions with obstacles
Spherical structure can provides motion in tightly constrained spaces
Due to single point of contact minimal friction for locomotion

Conclusion:
A spherical robot is easy to construct, has a sealed capsule to protect its hardware
and new design to accommodate current needs of the society. Its applications are
from using in hazardous location to using as toys at home or even as space and
planetary exploration devices.
