You are
responsible for reviewing the end of chapter questions in the textbook related to the
portions covered in class.
Chapter 9 & 10:
Question #1: Consider 1.5 kg of a 99.7 wt% Fe–0.3 wt% C alloy that is cooled to a temperature
just below the eutectoid

a) How many kilograms of pro-eutectoid ferrite form?


b) How many kilograms of eutectoid ferrite form?
c) How many kilograms of cementite form?
d) How many kilograms of pearlite will be there?
e) Is the composition hyper or hypo-eutectoid

e) Sketch and label time–temperature paths on this diagram for the formation of
following structures

ii) 50% martensite and 50% austenite

f) Rate the structures developed in part e according to increasing hardness.
