Executive summary

Research indicates that employees who are satisfied


with their jobs are more likely to stay with their
employers. According to this survey, 80% of
employees
indicated overall satisfaction with their current
position,
with 75% of employees reporting they were very
satisfied. What’s more, majority of employees (60%)
reported that the current economic climate has not
made any difference in their level of satisfaction—
and
this is good news for employers, especially during
the
economically challenging time.

Factors that were not strongly connected to


employees’
overall job satisfaction were organization’s
commitment to a ‘green’ workplace, networking, career
development opportunities, paid training and tuition
reimbursement programs, and organization’s commitment
to professional development.
In the organisation like BIG BAZAAR employee`s
were having were having a very good level of job
satisfaction , which is because of the hard effort`s
put by the H.R Department of big bazaar

INTRODUCTION

MR. KISHORE BIYANI

Big Bazaar is a chain of department stores in India currently with 100


outlets. It is owned by Pantaloon Retail India Ltd, Future Group. It
works on the same economy model as Wal-Mart and has been
successful in many Indian cities and small towns. The idea was
pioneered by entrepreneur Mr. Kishore Biyani, the CEO of Future
Group. Currently Big Bazaar stores are located only in India. It is the
fastest growing chain of department stores and aims at having 350
stores by the end of 2010. Big Bazaar is the destination where you
get products available at prices lower than the MRP, setting a new
level of standard in price, convenience and quality.
COMPANY PROFILE - BIG BAZAAR

Big Bazaar is not just another hypermarket. It caters to every

need of your family. Where Big Bazaar scores over other

stores is its value for money proposition for the Indian

customers.

The Big Bazaar is one such department store to have set

up shop across the country. Since its first outlet opened in

Kolkata in late 2001, the Big Bazaar has spread to towns and

cities at an alarming rate. Currently 106 outlets

These multi-level shopping meccas stock everything from food

to fridges, and cookware to clothes. However, the Big Bazaar

isn't your ordinary department store.It's been especially

designed to appeal to the Indian consumer.

Big Bazaar With a slogan of "Is se sasta aur accha kahin nahi!"

("Nowhere cheaper or better than this!"), the Big Bazaar


targets itself directly at the average Indian's love of following

the crowd and scrambling for a good discount.

Parent-Pantaloon Retail India Ltd

Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited, is India’s leading retailer that

operates multiple retail formats in both the value and lifestyle

segment of the Indian consumer market. Headquartered in

Mumbai (Bombay), the company operates over 12 million

square feet of retail space, has over 1000 stores across 71 cities

in India and employsover30,00people.

The company’s leading formats include Pantaloons, a chain

of fashion outlets, Big Bazaar, a uniquely Indian hypermarket

chain, Food Bazaar, a supermarket chain, blends the look,

touch and feel of Indian bazaars with aspects of modern retail

like choice, convenience and quality and Central, a chain of

seamless destination malls.

Some of its other formats include Brand Factory, Blue Sky, all,
Top 10 and Star and Sitara. The company also operates an
online portal, futurebazaar.com.
A subsidiary company, Home Solutions Retail (India) Limited,
operates Home Town, a large-format home solutions store,
Collection i, selling home furniture products and e Zone
focused on catering to the consumer electronics segment.
Pantaloon Retail was recently awarded the International
Retailer of the Year 2007 by the US-based National Retail
Federation (NRF) and the Emerging Market Retailer of the
Year2007 at the World Retail Congress held in Barcelona.

OBJECTIVES OF STUDY
To study of employee job satisfaction in big bazaar will
becarried out with the following objectives.To describe the
various expectations that determines the satisfaction level of
employee.

• To identify the factors concerning employee job satisfaction.

• To measure the level of satisfaction of employees with


respect to the companies.

• To analyze the collected data

• To Measure the satisfaction levels of employees on various


factors and give suggestions for improving the same.

• To study the relationship between the personal factors of the


employee (Gender, Designation, Qualification, Age, and Years
of Service in a company) with satisfaction level.

• To derive and analyze the current satisfaction level of the


employees in the company
• To study the various factors which influencing employee
satisfaction.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The methodology that is adopted for the study is such that it
facilitates the data accumulation. The information is gathered
through survey method. The survey method has been adopted for
collecting the data from employees.

BIG BAZAAR People management system is built on 5 pillars

Organisation Structure
Their organization is headed by their Managing Director. They
follow an inverse pyramid structure; as a result decisions are taken
closest to the point of customer action. Sales executive are
encouraged to think customer first. They are empowered to run their
respective departments .
HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT OF

The employee`s of big bazaar have such a good level of job


satisfaction in them because of several effort`s and policies of h.r
department . The HR department of Big Bazaar is very dynamic.
Employees are the biggest strength and asset of any organization and
the HR department realises this very well.
This is very evident from the way the HR department handles
all its employees. They take utmost care to select, train, motivate and
retain all the employees. They have continuous developmental
programmes for all the employees. Currently Big Bazaar
Lucknow is employing 300 full time and 60 part time employees.
There are two shifts for the employees. The first shift employees
arrive at 10AM in the morning and leave at 7.30 in the
evening, while the second shift employees report at 12.30 in the
afternoon and leave at the time of Store closing (10pm).

Compensation & Rewards


The employees are rewarded suitably with attractive pay
packages. The salary of an employee includes basic pay. HRA, special
allowance, PF,ESI, Mediclaim etc. Annual bonus will be given at the
time of Diwali. The employees and their dependents are also entitled
for medical treatment in recognised hospitals with cashless
hospitalisation with whom the company has tie-ups. If a hospital is
not recognised, the amount spent by the employee will be
reimbursed.
Along with these all the employees are given a card known as
‘Employee Discount card’ (EDC) through which they can buy any
product at Big Bazaar at a special discount of 20-30 %.

Leaves and other rules


An employee during his probationary period is entitled for 7 days of
leave. A confirmed employee is entitled for 30 days of leave in a
year. There is only one type of leave the employees can take which is
known as All Purpose Leave (APL).
All the employees will be given identity cards which they have to
wear and also swipe while at the time of entering and leaving the
Store.
Performance Appraisal
The HR department conducts performance appraisal of all the
employees annually in the month of April. Based on their
performance increments will be given in their pay. In
addition to this if an employee achieves or exceeds the target given
to along with their team members will be provided with attractive
cash and other incentives.
Training & Development
Future group has its own training division for all its employees,
known as ‘Future Learning & Development Limited’ (FLDL). All the
employees are given training for 20 days in a year spread over
different periods. ‘Gurukul’ which is a part of FLDL gives training to
all the employees on various skills like team work, dedication
discipline improving customer service etc to make them more
knowledgeable and productive.

Retention Strategy
They strive to foster a feeling of well-being in their
employees through care and respect, they have several
structured processes including employee mentoring
and grievance management programmes which are
intended to facilitate a friendly and cohesive organisation culture.
Off-site activities are encouraged to improve inter-personal
relationship. They have implemented an employee suggesstion
programme called ‘Prerna’ wherein the employee can give their
suggestions. Every quarter the best suggestion received per zone is
awarded with prize called “Golden Cap”.

FINDINGS
The following details can be inferred after analyzing the sample
sizeof 100 Respondents of

Big bazaar by questionnaire method to find out the Employee Job


Satisfaction

 50% of the respondents agree that they are satisfied with their
job.
 85% of the employees observed that the duty timing schedule is
convenient.
 Majority of the respondents feel that their happy with the
salary/perk structure paid by the organization.

 Most of the employees have expressed satisfaction towards the


recognition showed on them by the organization.

 Majority of the respondents agreed that they have clarity


regarding vision & values of the organization.
 Majority of the respondents have expressed satisfaction
towards existing career plan and growth opportunities in the
organization.
 Most of the respondents agree that the environment is suitable
 Majority of the respondents remain undecided regarding
management safe guarding them during risky situation.

SUGGESTIONS
1. Organization should try to maintain the same level of
satisfaction among employees through better recognition &
reward system mechanism.

benefits to the employees.

CONCLUSION
Big Bazaar is undoubtedly the number one retailer in India. It
has built a very emotional and cordial relationship with its
customers. It is also very intending to build long-term relationship
with all its stakeholders, which is very essential for a successful
business venture. It is observed that the organisation hierarchy is
professional as all the departmental Managers directly report to the
Store Manager who in turn reports to the Zonal Head. There exist a
healthy and positive relationship between employees and
managers.The employees accept their responsibilities
wholeheartedly, accept that it is their responsibility to carry out a
part of the activities of the company and they will be held
accountable for the quality of their work. It is found that more than
60% of employees are of the age group of 20-35. From this it reveals
that company is having young and energetic workforce who are very
creative, enthusiastic and also very determined to grow in their
career and in turn helping the company to grow. Working
environment is good and also the various facilities provided helps in
motivating the employees. Majority of employee`s at BigBazaar lies
under the category of highly satisfied level of job satisfaction in my
survey . the motivating factor for the employee`s at big bazaar is
feeling of being a part of “FUTURE GROUP”
