THE GOTIC

The Gothic subculture is a subcultural movement existing in several countries. It

began in the United Kingdom between the end of the 1970s and the mid-1980s,
within the Gothic rock scene. His aesthetics and cultural inclinations come mainly
from the influences of horror literature and horror movies.

The members of the Gothic subculture share aesthetic, musical and cultural tastes.
Gothic music encompasses several subgenres and styles, all of which have in
common the tendency towards an appearance and a dark sound. The styles of
dress take influences of the death rock or metal, the punk and until the style of
clothes of the Victorian time; Goths have their own aesthetic, which focuses on the
color black: black suits, makeup to highlight pallor on the face or lipstick black or
red.

as Gothic. But it would not be until the early 1980s when Gothic rock would
become a subgenre of its own, within punk, and that its followers would begin to
recognize themselves as Gothic and to form a recognizable movement.

Regardless of the English Gothic scene and almost at the same time, in the USA.
death rock began to emerge as an independent movement of American punk. In
the decade of the 80s and at the beginning of the decade of the 90s, the members
of the emerging Gothic subculture in Germany began to be called Grufties. These
generally represent a fusion of the Gothic subculture and the new wave movement,
with an influence of the new romantic, forming a movement formally called
darkwave.
