HISTORY ON BUDDHISM

Buddhism is one of the worlds oldest and most significant religions.

It begin in India in the fifth century.

Branches and school of Buddhism


• Theravada
• Mahayana
• Vajrayana
TEACHINGS OF BUDDHISM
• Time is cyclical-The universe moves through endless changes
and repeats itself over a grand time

• The original teachings were passed down verbally. His teachings


were finally written down hundreds of years later and in many
different languages.

• One needs to live a lifestyle of moderation.

• Eat only when your hungry

• No alcohol

• Dailey walking

• Regular meditation

• Pure air
THE THREE MARKS OF REALITY

• Dukkha- Suffering- To live is to suffer

• Anicca- Impermanence- Nothing stays the same

• Annatta- Egolessness- There is no you. You are here to help and


aide others
THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS

• To live is to suffer- Living is sorrow. Make decisions about today

• Suffering comes from desire-Desire is insatiable and sometimes


causes misery.

• If you wish to end suffering, then you must end desire-Aim less for
happiness and go for inner peace

• Release from suffering is possible, and can be achieved by


following the eightfold path.
THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATHS

• Right understanding

• Right intention

• Right speech

• Right action

• Right work

• Right effort

• Right meditation

• Right contemplation
MAHAYANA BUDDHISM

• The second of the three main branches of Buddhism

• Translated as “Big vehicle”

• What ever it takes to make a person feel inner peace then it is ok

• This forms shows itself in art, philosophy, architecture, Ceremony,


and music.

• Compassion for all feeling things. This includes animals because


they feel

• What ever it takes to reach Nirvana
