Part C: Process if "no open circuit" identified between C224 and C933 - Check Voltage level for
"SIM VCC"

1) Check Voltage level for "SIM VCC" after starting boot-up the device.
Please see picture below for the test point to check "SIM VCC":

When you check SIM VCC, this

part (orange color) should NOT

be pressed down. (i.e. do not

apply pressure in this region)

Please note: When you check "SIM VCC", the rear cover and screw must be assembled
i.e. fitted to the device being tested.

To enable you to check "SIM VCC" with the rear cover and screws fitted, please create a "test
rear cover" by making a test rear cover from a SPARE PART in which you make a hole to
access the test point to check for "SIM VCC.

Refer to below picture to see where a hole should be made in your "Test" rear cover:

This part is cut to open to create a

probing access point so you can

check for "SIM VCC".

2) Test: "SIM VCC" Voltage; If SIM VCC voltage level is similar to the "Malfunction case",
there is problem with the "NFC IC". (e.g. a dry solder joint or possible faulty NFC IC)

Malfunction Normal Operation Normal Operation

(SIM Card detection failure) (1.8V SIM Card Inserted) (No SIM Inserted)

3.0V
1.8V 1.8V
1.6V
1.2V

3) Solution and recommended service action

If SIM VCC voltage is as shown in "malfunction case", please replace the PBA to
avoid the device being returned by customer as a "repeat repair".

That is, do not re-solder or replace NFC IC as advised in previous versions of this guide -
Please replace the PBA instead.

Please ensure the following advice is followed if PBA is replaced:

a: Symptom code ‘76C – Memory card / SIM card storage problem’ must be used.
b: Please ensure the PBA when returned as replaced part is clearly labeled on PBA
packaging with Model name "GT-I9505" and "NO READ SIM" as per the picture below:
