About Document
This document is provided, as-is, to aide in the creation of DNS zones within an Infoblox environment
for the Hitachi Content Platform (HCP). The screenshots and instructions are examples from release
6.10 of the Infoblox product; if using a different release, consult the Infoblox NIOS Administrator
Guide or call Infoblox support to confirm instructions for the release being utilized.

1 Setup Overview
To enable access to HCP by domain name on any given network, you need to configure the HCP
domain for that network in your DNS. To do this, you can use either delegation zones or stub zones
within Infoblox.
HDS prefers the use of Infoblox’s delegation zones as they allow for HCP seamless failover. To
support HCP seamless failover, Infoblox must be setup to allow the HCP nodes to update (DNS-notify)
the delegation zones. HDS does allow stub zones for standalone HCP systems or for environments
that do not allow delegation zones. However, HCP seamless failover is not supported using stub zones
and in the case of a failover, the stub zones will need to be manually refreshed on the Infoblox
system.

Zone names need to match the domain name specified in the HCP

iii
The TTL setting affects how long cached DNS data is valid for in a delegation zone on the Infoblox system
before it will allow a refresh. If the value is set too high, the Infoblox system will not allow HCP seamless
failover to take place until the set amount of time has expired. This can affect the length of your applications
down time in a failover event.
