From the results obtained, the pH meter for sodium chloride, NaCl was 5.79
which changed the color in bromcresol green indicator to light blue. pH value that
was obtained for sodium carbonate, Na2CO3 was 9.78 which result the color change
in the bromcresol green indicator to the light blue. Then, pH value for sodium
acetate, NaCH3COO that was obtained in this experiment was 6.80 which cause the
color of bromcresol green indicator to change to light blue. The solution changes the
color of bromcresol green to light blue colour because the solution is base solution
which has high ph value. The range ph value of base was 7.1 until 14. Lastly for this
experiment, pH value that obtained for sodium hydrogen sulfate, NaHSO4, was 1.20.
Due to the low ph value, the bromcresol green indicator changes colour to beige.
The change of the bromcresol green to biege show that the solution was acidic
because the indicator will change its color to yellowish in acidic medium. From the
changed color of bromcresol green, sodium chloride, NaCl, sodium carbonate,
Na2CO3, and sodium acetate, NaCH3COO had same changed color because this
solutions was base and sodium hydrogen sulfate, NaHSO had different changed in
color because this solution was acid because it has low pH value.[6]. Error could
effect the accuracy of the result of this experiment. For example, the test tube used
in the experiment was contaminated by other foreign substance which could affect
the colour change of the bromcresol green indicator.
