Aris Konstantinidis - Weekend House in Anavyssos

Location

• near the sea, on a small rocky promontory, 48 kilometers from Athens


in Anavyssos, Attica, Greece.

Concept

• compatibile with the natural environ-


ment
• stone was used by Konstantinidis just
as has been used for thousands of years
by the builders, farmers and shepherds
• functional, cheap and reusable.

• Konstantinidis used the criteria of


proportionality and functionality
• stone houses seem to grow from the
earth like a plant, integrating beauti-
fully into the surrounding landscape.

Spaces

• building meets the minimum basic


needs of its inhabitants.
• rectangular plan is organized on a
grid of 2x5m
• contains a living room with a fire-
place, a bedroom, a bathroom and a
kitchen

• flat concrete slab roof rests on 6


rectangular stone pillars.
• terrace creates another maya as
“L”, of 2x3m, surrounding the
house by the west and northwest
sides. The house has another small
terrace on the angle between the
three rooms.

Materials

• main material used in this house is the local stone


• composition of spaces and rhythms similar to a philosophy to that of Mies
van der Rohe
• reflect on the richness and complexity of simple shapes.
• this beach house belongs to the series of houses known as “Stone Houses”.
• the interior furnishings have been reduced to the bare minimum.
