3. Scope
The contents of this policy apply to all clinical staff employed by or working on
behalf of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust who are required to undertake
aseptic procedures as part of their role and job description.
Non sterile gloves can be used for IV medication, wound care, venepuncture or
cannualtion where it is possible to undertake the procedure without touching key
parts.
Sterile gloves must be worn for urinary catheterisation or central venous catheter
insertion.

Each Division is responsible for the full implementation of this policy and will ensure
it is accessible to all staff.
