RESEARCH PLAN

Title: The Potentiality of Dayap (Citrus aurantiifolia) Fruit Extract as Component in Making
Bioplastic

Research Design
The research will use experimental research design to determine the effectiveness of the

experimental variable (Dayap fruit extract) as bioplastic by experimental methods.

Materials and Procedure

The researchers will gather key lime (Dayap) fruit in Santiago, Concepcion, Tarlac and

extract the juice by squeezing the fruit.

The researchers will perform three different trials. In trial 1, 7 ml of key lime fruit extract

will be used, while in trial 2, 14 ml of key lime fruit extract will be used, and lastly, in trial 3, 21

ml of key lime fruit extract will be used. Each fruit extracts collected from the key lime will be

mixed in a bowl with 10 grams of corn starch, 5 ml of glycerin and 60 ml of distilled water. The

mixture will then be placed in a medium-low heat fire and stirred continuously using a spoon

until it becomes translucent and gel-like. The gel-like mixture will be poured and spread on an

aluminum foil. Afterwards, the foil will be placed under the sun for 2-3 hours until it cools and

hardens. Once dry and firm, peel the residue off the foil and the bioplastic is done.

The study will be conducted in De Jesus’ Residence at Santiago Concepcion, Tarlac.

xi
Statistical Treatment
T-test will be used to determine the significant difference of the appearance and texture.

Below is the formula being used.

𝑥̅1 − 𝑥̅2
𝑡=
𝑆𝐷12 𝑆𝐷22

𝑁1 + 𝑁2

Where: t – Stands for the t-value

𝑥̅1 – Stands for the mean for the experimental group

𝑥̅2 – Stands for the mean for the control group

𝑆𝐷12 – stands for the variance of the control group

𝑆𝐷22 – stands for the variance of the experimental group

Testing the Product

The three trials that will be performed will be compared to each other based on texture

and flexibility. The trial with the most acceptable results from the questionnaires and surveys will

be compared to the standard vinegar bioplastic.
