A HOUSE LETTER TO MR.

JOKOWI:

URGING THE THE PROTEST HAPPENED LATELY DUE

TO THE REVISION OF THE CRIMINAL CODE

September 30,2019

The Honorable Mr.Joko Widodo

President of The Republic of Indonesia

Indonesian Presidental Palace
10110 Gambir, DKI Jakarta
Indonesia

Dear Mr. President, Joko widodo:

This is your second periode as president of Indonesia. Thank you for what you have done in the
last five years even there are a lot of problems that you should take responsibility of it. Indonesia is a
large country with complicated problems. Segregation issue, hoax news, environment issue,
corruption as we know is an old problem in Indonesia, the uncertainty law, justice, and others. There
is some progress you made i admit it, for example is the development in several regions like Borneo
and Sumatera. At least that is what we know from “media”.

Inaugiration is still waiting for you. But Indonesia has been facing some problems. As we know
Mister President, RUU KUHP and RUU KPK have been making our society worried regarding this
country. Colleger movement everywhere, they convey the protests to government. The protests that
will go down to our history as civil society and young generation movement to reach their freedom
back. We had to learn on our history, back to reformation era as rise of freedom but besides that as
our dark history. Human rights has no its place. Hundreds or thousands people hurt and die. Police
and soldier too repressives but it will never stop movement. Why? Because people believe in their
dream, better future and better system in Indonesia.

Lately, revision of criminal code become big issues. Because of it, several protests in Indonesia
in Jakarta, Malang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Makassar, Bali, Semarang, Solo and another city. Mr
president this is inevitable is serious problem that you have to take right decision to solve. This revision
of criminal code contain several controversial law that we take a part here. Pers and freedom of
speech, sexual, corruption has been several laws that makes colleger take a part of this issues and
protested to government. Demanded that this revision of criminal code suppose to cancel because it
will rein in democracy and individual freedom. Sexual desire is suppose to be my right, government
has no legitimation on it. I have my own right on it. In developed countries, for example United States
Of America the freedom of speech and PERS guaranteed by their government. So, transparancy has
its place in our democracy, because basic of democracy is transparancy. Critics suppose to be open
then there is no repressive action that police do. That is how democracy work. Mr president, people
have shown their voices. You have to listen ther aspiration.

But unfortunately Mister President. Randi one of the colleger from University of Halu Oleo die
after he participated on demonstration because of live bullet. This case must be investigated, what is
wrong with young people who try to speak up? What happen with our democracy? Then there is
Dandhy Laksono who was arrested by police because he tweet about condition in Papua on twitter.
Then there is Ananda Badudu was arrested too by police because he was accused transfered some
money for colleger who did protest. Is this what we call democracy Mister President? Reformation has
built fondation when people could speak up. There is no repressive action from government on critics,
critics must be reply by an answer not by repressive action.

I put my trust on you Mister President so with the other people of Indonesia too. I hope you can
improve some problems we are facing as nation. The power is on you, you have responsibility along
with government agencies. Indonesia’s duty is on you. Let’s make our democracy become what real
democracy it is. Indonesia is great nation if only we are as nation want so.

Sincerely,

Colleger of Muhammadiyah Malang University
