HAZARDS, HAZARDS EVERYWHERE!

Biological/health hazard, refers to biological substance that pose a threat to the

living organisms, primarily that of humans. This can include samples of a
microorganism, virus or chemicals that can affect human or animal health.

These three pictures shows biological

hazard since all three of them have toxic
chemicals that can bring harm to us when
inhaled, let’s take the fire extinguisher for
example the foam can suffocate us or can
cause burns. The fire extinguishers may
be inside a locked space but students can
easily reached the tanks and play with
them while the tanks are placed in a place
that is not locked. The pressure gauge
doesn’t have any barrier. All three of these
doesn’t have signs around them indicating
that they’re hazardous things or that they
can cause harm to students.

Physical hazard is a factor within the environment that can harm the body without
necessarily touching it. It also includes but is not limited to electricity, radiation,
pressure, noise, heights and vibration among others.
Electricity is very useful to us but it can cause great harm when exposed to water,
we can see here the wires that doesn’t have covers and hanging in the walls. The
socket shouldn’t be near the drinking fountains. Most of these pictures are taken near
the canteen where we can always see elementary kids goofing around.

Workplace hazard anything that has the potential to cause harm to a person
including tripping, slippery places, falling debris etc.
These pictures shows workplace hazard.
We can see that the construction
materials are left lying everywhere that
can cause harm to the students and staffs
of the school. Let’s take the hammer as
an example, it was left by some workers
or students in the garden where kids
usually play, it can cause great damage
when left unattended. The grounds have
moss and can cause accidents even the
drainage have thin plywood coverings
that easily break when get stepped on.
Some of the places are prone to falling
debris.

Conclusion:
In the activity that was conducted, we saw a lot of hazards around the campus
premises that can cause harm, may it be to the students or the staffs. As we took
pictures of it, group members gave their opinion why it should be a hazard. We saw
electric wires hanging from the ceiling and electric boxes doesn’t have covers in them
with the wires tangled. In the end of this activity, we can say that it was to give
warning or simply to let students know that accidents can happen everywhere, it
can’t be avoided. We need to identify the degree of impact it can cause us and the
proper attention to deal with them. Each students should know the proper safety
measures to avoid accidents. Hazards are not just natural processes, sometimes we
make them. We need to do things that can lessen them, we need to be careful and
not to allow them to give us damages just because we lack proper knowledge on how
to deal with them.
School officials should act on these problems, we shouldn’t wait until someone
gets hurt from these hazards. University of the East doesn’t only offer high school
and college education, they also provide service to elementary students, who are
more prone to these kind of things since they don’t have much knowledge regarding
this matter. Most of the pictures that we took are taken from the canteen where we
can see kids playing around. This wires and pipes are left unattended, lying around
the premises. We don’t think that we should pass by these hazards and stare at it
without doing anything. We shouldn’t wait until someone gets involve in this kind of
accident, we need to lessen them and do proper measures to avoid them from
happening.
