2. Butylen Systems
BUTYLEN corrosion protection systems are cold applied polyethylene-butyl rubber bonding tapes in
combination with a butyl rubber based primer. BUTYLEN corrosion protection systems come as one or
two tape systems. In one-tape systems, the BUTYLEN tape takes on both the corrosion protection
function and that of a mechanical protection tape. In a two-tape system, the tapes each take on one of
these functions.
Structure of BUTYLEN Systems
BUYTLEN corrosion protection systems are approved by and registered with the DVGW (Deutscher
Verein des Gas-und Wasserfachs e.V. - German Association for the Gas and Water Industries) and
meet and exceed the demands of EN 12068 and DIN 30672.

3. Butylen Tapes (Butyl Rubber Tapes)
BUTYLEN tapes and tape systems have been used for more than 40 years to provide long-term
corrosion protection for buried pipes, welded joints, pipe bends and structural elements.
The invention of the first three-ply bonding tape (BUTYLEN-Tape S40) by DEKOTEC in 1971 was
followed about 10 years later by further development to produce the asymmetrical three-ply tapes
mainly used today. BUTYLEN tape systems have been used very successfully in large-scale pipeline
construction and in pipeline renovation since 1971. Thanks to constant improvement and the use of
modern polyethylene materials, BUTYLEN tape systems even today represent the state of the art in
corrosion protection bonding tape.
Self-amalgamation of butyl rubber tapes
BUTYLEN tapes can be combined in various ways to make tape systems. All systems have in
common that a self-amalgamating three-ply tape or a butyl tape is always used for the innermost layer
of corrosion protection. Only tapes of this type amalgamate in the overlap area to form a sleeve-like
coating that is practically diffusion resistant to water vapor and oxygen.
4. Proposed Tape System
BUTYLEN TWO TAPE SYSTEM AS30-20 / R20MP
The system consists of

BUTYLEN-Tape AS30-20 corrosion resistant butyl rubber tape as inner wrapping
BUTYLEN-Tape R20MP as a mechanical protection outer wrapping
BUTYLEN-System AS30-20 / R20MP has been specially designed for corrosion protection coating of
metal pipes and pipelines in accordance with DIN 30672 and EN 12068.
The inner wrapping of BUTYLEN-Tape AS30-20 will amalgamate in the overlap area to form a sleeve-
like coating, impermeable to water vapour and Oxygen and it is resistant against soil bacteria and
electrolytes.
BUTYLEN-Tape R20MP is a two-ply tape with an HDPE carrier film and a butyl rubber coating on the
one side. This tape will amalgamate completely in the overlap area with the inner layer of BUTYLEN-
Tape AS30-20.

BUTYLEN-Primer HT and BUTYLEN MASTIC
BUTYLEN Primers and BUTYLEN Mastic are butyl rubber based products.
A primer is essential for BUTYLEN tape systems. BUTYLEN Primer clearly improves adhesion to
metallic surfaces. Using the tape system without a primer will not meet industry standard requirements.
BUTYLEN Primers consist of butyl rubber and unsaponifiable resins in petroleum spirit.
BUTYLEN-Mastic WP and Mastic W are used as fillers in combination with BUTYLEN tape systems.
These permanently plastic, hand shapeable butyl rubber fillers allow uneven places in metal surfaces to
be filled and then wrapped void-free using BUTYLEN tape systems.
BUTYLEN-Tape AS30-20
BUTYLEN-AS30-20 is a cold-applied corrosion prevention tape for metal pipes and pipelines with both
small and large nominal pipe sizes.
BUTYLEN-AS30-20 is a real co-extruded three-ply plastic tape made from a stabilised polyethylene
carrier material with butyl rubber adhesive on both sides. The inner butyl rubber coating fuses with the
outer layer to form a hose-like encasement that is virtually impermeable to water vapour, soil bacteria
and oxygen.

BUTYLEN-Tape R20 HT is a two-ply tape with an HDPE carrier film, butyl rubber coated on one side.

DEKOMAT Wrapping Device
Wrapping machines simplify the application of BUTYLEN and DEKOTEC tapes and systems. Hand
and motor-driven machines ensure that the necessary tension and lapping is maintained. Using
wrapping machines increases the speed and safety of post-factory coating using tape systems.
DEKOMAT® 1 is a hand-driven wrapping machine for spiral wrapping of cold applied BUTYLEN tapes
around pipes and bends. The machine ensures even wrapping tension and that the prescribed overlap
width is maintained.
DEKOMAT® 1 can be used for straight pipes and pipe bends and on welded joints on steel pipes
factory coated with PE or other synthetics from DN 80 upwards.
DEKOMAT® 1 can be used to apply all BUTYLEN tapes in widths up to 100 mm. The device can be
used where there is a minimum distance between pipe and trench wall or trench floor of 25 cm.

Quality Policy:
It is the policy of the directors and all employees of the DEKOTEC and the DENSO GmbH to
continue to investment their effort in the development of (management) quality, process
suitability, resource capability and customer response in order to enhance an existing reputation
as a leading manufacturer for high quality systems for corrosion prevention and infrastructure
products.
To further achieve Company's quality objectives the company has designed, developed and
implemented a QMS-System in compliance with ISO 9001:2008. This system is designed to
assist in the achievement, of corporate Objectives. Other quality objectives are driven by the
company’s "Customer Value Proposition" initiative.
The QMS is subjected to both internal and external annual calendar year surveillance by the
Company's own internal auditor and by an independent external auditor certified by the DQS-
Organization.
The company reserves the right to alter the QAM at any time in the furtherance of efficiency and
the provision of quality service to the company clients in accordance with the evolution of
company objectives.
Continuous Improvement Policy:

We are constantly working to improve our quality and service and we are also constantly
improving the skills of our employees as we are a learning organisation.
In doing so move towards setting individual objectives and action plans (at the biannual round of
appraisals) via the company appraisal system in order to achieve, maintain and improve such
levels and standards of performance.
It is the policy of the Directors and all employees of the DEKOTEC and the DENSO GmbH, to
continually improve the Company’s activities in:
a) Meeting contractual obligations and product
b) Achieving expectations of customer satisfaction
