Review text of Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society is American drama film with directed by Peter Weir, Written by Tom Schulman,
and produced by Steven Haft and Paul Junger Witt with their production company is Touchstone
Pictures. Release on June 2, 1989 with film length 120 minutes.

This film tells the story about shy Todd Anderson begins his senior high school at Welton Academy,
its a male academy and elite rep-school. He’s meet Neil Perry as his roommate and him get quickly
accepted by Neil’s friend: Charlie Dalton, Knox Overstreet, Richard Cameron, Steven Meeks, and
Gerard Pitts. On first day of classes, they are surprised get the unorthodox teaching methods of the
new English teacher John Keating. He’s encourages his student to make their lives unique and be
yourself. After learnt Keating was a Welton alumnus and a member of unsanctioned Dead Poets
Society, Neil and his friends restart the club and they sneak off from campus to a cave where they
read poetry and verse, including their own composition. As the school year progresses, Keating’s
lessons and their involvement with the club encourage them to live their lives on their own terms
and break the orthodox rules. After that Steven and Gerard trying to experiment with their “Hi-Fi
Radio”, Knox reveal his love to Chris Danburry previously get a punch from her boyfriend, And Neil
found his passion in acting. He’s try to take an audition for drama show in Henley Hall. But his
parents angry and disagree about Neil’s decision, their trying get in Neil to Ivy League (like a doctor
university). Neil can’t fight back his parents decision and just accept it. Unfortunately, Neil’s mental
can’t accept this decision and take a suicide. His parents crying so hard because their children dead.
All of Neil friends was shocked hear Neil’s death. Because that, Mr. Nolan (Principal of Welton
Academy) blame out Keating because his teaching methods too dangerous for student’s thought.
Finally, John Keating fired from english teacher’s position and leave immediately the Academy.

This film discuss about the school life, how teachers teach at school and how parents to make their
children like they hope, like smart, diligent and success on their education. The teachers teach with
high-discipline teaching, use an orthodox curriculum, and push the students to memorize all their
lessons. The parents want their children to be someone who’s succesful like their hope, like doctor
or writer. Their not care about wishes of their children want. The parents just insisted and will scold
their children if deviate from they hope.
