Aims
 To review preposition through locations, buildings on a map
 To introduce the present simple through habits and daily activities
 Understand a description of daily routine through a short video
 To describe one’s own routine
 To understand the Executive Branch of Government

Introduction
This lesson starts with a review of the last class, introduces the present simple and develops
into a description of the executive branch of the USA Government.

Materials
Textbook: Unit 3 pages 33 to 39
Video: Every day
Smart board/whiteboard: images, reading texts
Handouts: Functions of the Executive branch of Government

Procedure

Warm up
 Review of last class:
1. Students will place the name of each build following the description per
sentence. Image will be projected, and students will reposition the name of
the building according to the understanding of each written statement.
2. With the same map, students will complete, and answer questions related
to it.
3. Project image and incomplete paragraph, students will complete the
paragraph according to what they see in the picture. After completion
encourage students to ask each other questions with how many…

 Task 1 – Text book


 Reading, listening and grammar activities from Foundations
 Mimic your daily activities and have the class verbalize your actions. Encourage
students to mimic their routine in front of the class while the rest verbalize the
actions.

 Task2 - Video: Every day

 Project and have students watch the video at least twice. Stop video when necessary
to point out new vocabulary. Ask general questions about the video when finished.
 Project true or false sentences with images from the video on the screen. Students
answer each one. Play back video when necessary.
 Match sentences with images from the video
 Reorganize sentences according to the understanding of the video in chronological
order in pairs. Have them read the final script out loud.
 Reorganize scrambled sentences. Project them on the screen and have students
write them down.

 Task3 – Project information about the Executive Branch of Government.


 Use text to emphasize the present simple
 Play audio and project the text so that students can follow it, then have individual
students re-read it out loud
 Project sentences about the text in present simple and have students write the
question for each sentence in pairs.

Cooler – Writing
 Have students write identify the functions (sentences) of the Executive branch with the
pictures

Homework. Ask learners to bring interrogative sentences based on the cooler activity about the
Executive branch
