Dear Mr dela Cruz

The trainees were asked to create a Corporate Social Responsibility Plan that our team
can implement, and a plan that can advertise our company and what it stands for.

A Corporate Social Responsibility Plan ensures companies to conduct their business in


an ethical way. This means taking account of their social, economic and environmental impact,
and consideration of human rights. We propose The Better Beauty Plan that aims to engage The
Humphries Corporation in efforts involving environmental protection and sustainability by
reducing fruit and vegetable wastes in the early stages of the food chain.

According to Rene Pineda, former president of the Consumer Rights for Safe Food, “more
than half of fresh produce end up as waste because it cannot pass the standard set by giant
supermarket chains.” And according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United
Nations, 40% of food are lost or wasted due to transportation and processing inefficiencies in
developing countries.

Food wastage takes a toll on the environment. FAO’s study titled “Food Wastage
Footprint: Impacts on Natural Resources” found that wasted food adds 3.3 billion tons of
greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

The Better Beauty Plan aims to create a new line of skin care products that will utilize
these “ugly” fruits and vegetables. Despite their appearance, they still carry the same nutrients,
and are still edible. The company will be able to buy it at a cheaper price and the farmers will get
to have additional profit from the produce that they used to throw as waste, or at least have their
production costs returned. The Better Beauty is also a charity work. Majority of the profit will be
used to fund scholarships for the farmers’ children. It is The Better Beauty because you get to
help a farmer and help in minimizing food wastage while staying beautiful.

The Humphries Corporation will directly buy the produce from the farmers to be able to
get them at a cheaper price. These will be transported to our factory in Metro Manila using the
company’s shipping vehicles. The projected cost for the produce is shown in the table below
together with the final products.

After 2 months of retrieval of produce, the production begins. Production will last for 3
months. At the middle of the second month of production, the products will be released as “The
Better Beauty” and advertised through all social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram,
Twitter, etc. A teaser video will be released for the new line of skin care products. The Better
Beauty products will be available for orders on the company’s website on the sixth month following
the release of posters of the products. The Better Beauty will be available for retail and wholesale
orders. At the end of every month, the amount of “ugly” produce saved by The Better Beauty will
be released.

Profit should be flowing in on the sixth month. The projected sales is shown in the table
below. Majority of the profit will be put in a separate fund for the scholarships of the farmers’
children.
