PART B
(Outcomes after Execution)

“Micro-Project Title”

“Conduct online/internet survey for water shed management project in

Maharashtra state with a detailed report of all relevant technical inputs. ”

1.0 Brief Introduction:

 A watershed, also called a drainage basin or catchment area, is defined as an area in which all
water following into it goes to a common outlet. People and livestock are the integral part of watershed
and their activities affect the productive status of watersheds and vice versa. Watershed is not simply the
hydrological unit but also socio-politicalecological entity which play crucial role in determining food,
social, and economical security and provides life support services to rural people Watershed development
program is, therefore, considered as an active tool for addressing many of these problems and recognized
as potential engine for agricultural growth and socio-economic development in fragile and marginal rain-
fed areas. Management of natural resources at watershed scale produces multiple benefits in terms of
increasing food production, improving livelihoods, protecting environment, addressing gender and equity
issues along with biodiversity concerns.
 In Solapur district, watershed has been developed along Bhima and Sina rivers. The role of this
watershed is very important in these regions, due to better development of socio-economical condition of
the people.

2.0 Aim of the Micro-Project (in about 100 to 200 words)

This Micro-Project aims at:

1) To improve water availability

2) To improve water quality

3) To reduce risks of natural disasters

4) To increase biomass cover

5) To improve soil quality

3.0 Course Outcomes Integrated(Add to the earlier list more Course are addressed)

1) Discuss basic concepts of “Water Resources Management”.

2)Estimate the surface runoff from given precipitation data.
3) Describe various types of survey investigations for reservoir planning.
4) Design the appropriate rain water harvesting scheme and required structures for given conditions..

4.0 Actual Procedure Followed

Write step wise the work was done, including which team member did what work and how the data was
analyzed (if any).

1) After getting the topic, group discussion has done for preparing micro project.
2) Our group is having total four members. We allotted the work to each group member.
3) We started collection of information regarding the micro project. Our faculty had given some hints
regarding the resources.
4) We gathered all the information ofthe water shed mangament
5) We discussed with our faculty and shown him all the gathered data.
6) He suggested many corrections regarding the information and arrangement of data.
7) After getting his suggestions, we started to prepare actual project data (part-B) and its arrangement.
8) We prepared our micro project and have shown to our faculty.
9) After getting his final permission, we submitted the micro project.

5.0 Outputs of the Micro-Projects

 Information Water shed Management

 WATER SHED MANAGEMENT

The process of implementing land use practices and water management practices to protect and improve the
quality of water and other natural resources within a watershed by managing the use of those land and water
resources in a comprehensive manner

 OBJECTIVES OF WATER SHED MANAGEMENT

Protecting, conserving and improving the land resources for efficient and sustained
production Protecting and enhancing water resources, moderating floods, increasing irrigation and
conserving rainwater for crops.

 PERSPECTIVE OF WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT HYDROLOGICAL ASPECTS :

Hydrological behaviour of watershed is influenced by watershed conditions These

measure effects flood control, soil moisture conservation and land use ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS
Development applied locally for developing green foliage, enriches environment globally in due
course of time

 SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECTS :

In achieving the true objective of watershed management, the viewpoint of individuals

and communities, who live in the watershed should be considered It also determines the

motivation of farmers to make necessary investment of labour and capital in watershed
development.

FINANCIAL ASPECTS :-

The projects can be funded by Government or NGO’s The unit cost of watershed
development normally range from Rs 4500 to Rs 6000 per hectare depending on nature and
location of watershed

 ADMINISTRATIVE AND POLITICAL ASPECTS :-

Watershed management requires close collaboration of various planning and

implementing agencies to achieve full benefits of the programme Planning should only include
those measures and activities which are acceptable politically.

 APPROACH FOR WATERSHED MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT :-

People’s participation is the key to watershed development programmes While the

main development activities have to be carried out by the watershed community itself, the overall
facilitation, coordination and supervision of the whole programme will be responsibility of a The
whole setup for the watershed management follows a hierarchical approach.

 SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES FOR WATERSHED TREATMENT :-

Soil and water conservation measures to be employed depend on the purpose for
which the land and water is to be used There are two broad categories.

 SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES FOR AGRICULTURAL LAND CONTOUR BUNDING :-

A series of such bunds divide the area into strips and act as a barrier to the flow of
water. These are constructed where the excess water is to be removed safely to avoid water
stagnation

 BENCH-TERRACING :-

It is practiced on steep hill slopes which involves converting the ground into level step
like fields by half cutting and half filling. These are associated with channel terraces for safe
disposal of concentrated run off, thereby protecting the land against rills and gullies.

 STRIP CROPPING :-

Strip cropping consists of a series of alternate strips of various types of crops laid out so
that all tillage and crop management practices are performed across the slope or on the contours

6.0 Skill Developed / learning out of this Micro –Project

(in about 150 to 300 words)
According to the state government plan published by the Ministry of Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship in March 2015, one of the key objectives of the water shed mangament .
was to cover the skills training of about 24 lakh people. The specific skills imparted would be
decided based on the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and on the basis of feedback
from the various industries that would potentially employ the trainees.
The specific skills training to be imparted have been assessed by the National Skill Development
Corporation (NSDC) on the basis of demand in recent skills gap by a study for the 2013-17 period.
Central ministries and state government departments were consulted and the inputs of various
industry and business heads were also considered. Skills needed to implement various other

flagship schemes such as Digital India were also assessed. Currently, about 428 job roles are
being catered to by the skills training imparted under the water shed mangament .

7.0 Any other:(Future Scope/Conclusion/References)

 Conclusion

Watersheds Should be Managed Comprehensively and NCD should be Considered as part of the
Management Team’s Tool Box to:

–Meet Stream Requirements

–Reduce Watershed Management Costs

–Increase the Quality of Life in a watershed
