 METHOD STATEMENT FOR DEWATERING IN PIPELINE WORK

Scope and Description of Work: This method statement is applicable for all Sewer Network
piping system for the project of “Construction of Water supply and Sewerage Facilities in the
Island of Lh.Naifaru, Maldives”

Manpower required: Pipe Fitters and Helpers

Tools and Plants required: Dewatering pumps, shoring material, Jacks, Delivery Hose

Safety Equipment: Barricades, Warning tapes, Sign Boards and PPE for labours.

Statutory Requirement :

Before staring of Dewatering, the Permit will be received from Island council and EPA, Maldives
for the particular zone of work.

Water Table:

In Lh.Naifaru and Th.Veymandhoo island, it has been observed that the water table is fluctuating
based on High tide and low tide of the sea. In most of the location, water table is at 0.7m.

Dewatering Operation:

After setting out the marking for the pipeline routing, the excavation will be carried out and
shoring arrangement will be made wherever there is chance of sliding of trench. Simultaneously,
dewatering will be done to keep the bottom of the trench free from water. Small pit will be made
at the end of trench so that all the water in trench flow into the pit and the water will be pumped
out to the land 10m to 15m away from the trench. The capacity and number of the pumps is
decided depending upon the depth of trench and amount of infiltration of water into the trench.
Dewatering will continue till the end of the backfilling of the trench.

Conclusion:

The dewatering will be carried out as per EPA norms and in such a way that there will not be any
impact on the environment and the property of public / private.
