Generate Export Data Source

Applies to:
SAP BI 7.0 developers and support Users. For more information, visit the EDW homepage

Summary
This paper describes the data mart interface which makes it possible to update data from one data target into
another. A Business Information Warehouse represents a source system for another Business Information
Warehouse by:
 providing metadata
 providing transaction and master data
The data-delivering system is then referred to as the source BW, the data-receiving system as the target
BW. An export Data Sources is needed to transfer data from a source BW into a target BW. This export Data
Sources for Info Cubes and ODS objects includes an extract structure that contains all the characteristics
and key figures of the data target. Export Data Sources for master data contain the metadata for all
attributes, texts and hierarchies for an Info Object.

Generate Export Data Source

Introduction
The “Generate Export Data Source” is a data mart interface which can be used between two BW Systems or
between another SAP system and a BW System:
 to enable large amounts of data to be processed.
 to increase the respective speeds of data transfer, logging and analysis.
 to achieve improved concision and maintenance of the individual Data Warehouses.
 to enable data separation relating to the task area, on the one hand, and to be able to perform
analyses of the state of the entire dataset on the other.
 to make it possible to have fewer complexities when constructing and implementing a Data
Warehouse.
 to construct hub and spoke scenarios in which a BW stands in the middle and the data from
distributed systems runs together and is standardized.

Prerequisite
Define the Source System
The prerequisite to load the data from source BW system to target BW system is to create a BW source
system in the target BW Administrator Workbench.
1. In the SAP BW Administrator Workbench (RSA1), in the SOURCE SYSTEM, right click on BI folder to
create a new Source System Context Menu. Create and choose the radio button for creating an external
system automatically.

Figure 2:- Create Source System

2. Assign the available destination or create new destination by entering the below information of the source
BW system.
 Target Computer (server)
 System ID (system name)
 System number

3. Enter the background user, password that you defined for the SAP BW background user in the source BW
system and background user, password for SAP BW user in the target BW system. If the user already exists
in the source system, enter the valid password.

4. Select the relevant clients and logon as a system administrator. First make sure that you have the
authority to create users and RFC destinations.

Export DataSource for a Data Target

The Meta data objects like data source and extract structure having the information about the structure of the
data requested should be defined to transfer data from source BW system to the target BW system.
You can generate an export DataSource for the respective data target in the source BW. This export
DataSource includes an extract structure, which contains all the characteristics and key figures of the data
target.

Step 1: Generate Meta Data

Right click on the Info Provider (RSA1) in the source BW and select Additional Properties  Generate Export
DataSource. The technical name of the export DataSource is derived from the number 8 together with the
name of the data target.
For Example:-
 Technical name of an Info Cube: 0PAPD_C02
 Technical name of the export DataSource: 80PAPD_C02

Step 2: Replicate Meta Data

Select the Application component DM (Data Marts) and Right click  Replicate Metadata in the target BW to
replicate the export data source of source BW. Change the data source to Edit Mode and activate the data
source.

Step 3: Create Transfer Rules / Transformation to the target

As per the standard SAP BI 7.0 practices, create the transformation on the exported data sources to the info
providers like Info Source, DSO or Info Cube.

Step 4: Create Info Package

Create the Info package and DTP for scheduling the data flow as per the standard SAP BI 7.0 rules using the
export data source.

Step 5: Load Data

Schedule the Info package and DTP manually or include them in the process chain to load the data to the
targets from the export data source.

Generate Export Data Source

Master Data Export DataSource

A DataSource is needed to transfer data from a source BW into a target BW. You can generate an export
DataSource for master data, and thus for individual Info Objects. By doing this, all the metadata is created
that is required to extract master data (all attributes, texts and hierarchies) from an Info Object.

Step 1: Generate Meta Data

Right click on Info Object (master data) (RSA1) in the source BW and select Additional Properties 
Generate Export DataSource. The metadata of an export DataSource is generated as it exists in the source
BW.
...

The technical name of the export DataSource is called

 8******M. for attributes (M stands for 'master data')
 8******T for texts.
 8******H for hierarchies.

For example:
 Technical name of an Info Object: 0MATERIAL
 Technical name of the export DataSource for attributes: 80MATERIALM
 Technical name of the export DataSource for Texts: 80MATERIALT

Step 2: Replicate Meta Data

Select the Application component DM-IO (Data Marts Info Objects) and Right click  Replicate Metadata in
the target BW to replicate the export data source of source BW. Change the data source to Edit Mode and
activate the data source if it’s inactive.

Step 3: Create Transfer Rules / Transformation to the target

As per the standard SAP BI 7.0 practices, create the transformation on the exported data sources to the info
objects for attributes, texts and hierarchies.

Step 4: Create Info Package

Create the Info package and DTP for scheduling the data flow as per the standard SAP BI 7.0 rules using the
export data source.

Figure 7:- Info Package using Export Data Source

Step 5: Load Data

Schedule the Info package and DTP manually or include them in the process chain to load the data to the
targets from the export data source.

Delta Process for transaction Data

The transfer of transaction data corresponds to the data transfer for an R/3 System. The system reads the
data while taking into account the specified dimension-specific selections from the fact table of the delivered
Business Information Warehouse.

When transferring transaction data, requests can be used to determine a delta.

The distinction is made between Info Cube and ODS objects.

 The Info Cube that is used as an export-DataSource is first initialized, meaning that the current
status is transferred into the target BW. When the next upload comes around only those requests will
then be transferred that have come in since the time of initialization. Different target systems can
also be supplied like this.
 Only those requests are transferred that have been rolled up successfully in the aggregates. If no
aggregates were used only those requests are transferred that are set to ’qualitative OK’ in the Info
Cube Administration.
 For ODS objects the requests are used as the basis for determining delta, which are in the change
log of the ODS object. Only the change log requests which have arisen from reactivating the ODS
object data are transferred.

Restriction:

It is only possible to make a selection per target system for the delta

For Example:-

You first make a selection using cost center 1 and load deltas for this selection. At a later time you also
decide to load a delta for cost center 2 in parallel to the cost center 1 delta The delta can only be requested
wholly for both centers, meaning that it is then impossible to separately execute deltas for the different
selection.
