As a foundation to all the networking I am about to do, I learned the basics of creating a resume. I have always known about the importance of a resume especially when job- hunting, and ISM reaffirms that. It probably matters a lot more in the tech industry since the skills needed are more specific in the form of programming languages. Despite resumes usually being very well-designed and colorful, for a programming job, the colors and shapes could detract from the value of the skills listed on the resume. A black and white document with just text is most likely the best suited for the type of job I would want to apply to. That being said, having a design was the only way I could reasonably fill out all the space on the page. My academics and activities are the only indicators on the resume that I can be a good worker. However, since the process of applying for a job is a negotiation process involving other components like interviewing and demonstration of skills, a resume is far from the only thing that needs work. Right now, I have still yet to get my hands dirty being out in the real world, so experience should be able to complement my classroom knowledge.
