Casa Hacienda de Naic and

Diocesan Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Church

Casa Hacienda de Naic is a 19th century structure located in Naic, Cavite. It was
constructed around 1830 by the Dominican priests after purchasing a large tract of
real estate property known as the Hacienda de San Isidro Labrador to serve as housing
for the oversees and workers of the said Hacienda.
This place served as the base of operations for Andres Bonifacio and his men they met
here to create the Naic Military Agreement. They sought to oppose Emilio Aguinaldo's
government which was initiated during the Tejeros Convention a month earlier. When
Andres Bonifacio and his brother were arrested for treason, they were brought here
and jailed in a small, dark room under the stairs known as the bartolina. The holding
cell is still intact today and open to visitors. Casa Hacienda de Naic was converted into
an elementary school in 1922.
As we go around the Hacienda, we noticed that it was quite scary because of
the presence you will feel when you are there. You can say that it is a very historical
place because of the surroundings and things around it. You can see that the things
like stairs doors and windows are very old. Naic Elementary School is one of the most
historical place and school in Cavite, this is not just a typical school because it holds a
very significant history.
In addition there was a church beside the Casa Hacienda de Naic it was officially
known as the Diocesan Shrine of the Immaculate Concepcion, it is one of the largest
churches in the Philippines. The parish was established in 1796 but the construction
of the first stone church started in 1835. The architecture is distinctly earthquake
baroque, a style common among Spanish Period churches in the country. Neo-gothic
elements are incorporated as well. Before being taken over by the Dominicans, the
Church of Naic was headed mostly by secular Filipino clergy, the most famous of whom
was Padre Modesto de Castro. Located just outside the Casa Hacienda de Naic, the
church is a pilgrim site particularly during Lent. A rosary garden beside the church
displays a series of tableaus depicting the Stations of the Cross. Visitors can also check
out the museum at one side of the church. The museum displays Marian vestments,
paintings, and statues along the staircase up to the second floor.
