DANISH S MEHTA

 The herders should try and work out a settlement with the villagers. They
should forward their claims for the land, by reminding the villagers about
the fact that the enclave had been long abandoned by the villagers. They
should tell the villagers that they themselves were the ones who
encouraged the herders to settle by the Beris for their own benefits. The
villagers earlier had no objection at all even with few of the families settling
permanently in the Gol too.
The herders have been careful of even the cattle routes, because they
didn’t want any sort of conflicts. They trusted the villagers with the
informal contract they had with the farmers.

The current law, the fact of non-cultivation for decades also works on their
side. They should approach the Rural Council, and should try to negotiate
peacefully for the land. If the farmers are still reluctant to give away the
land at this time, they should at least secure the land ownership rights of
those families which had permanently settled down in the Gol. The
remaining area can be given back to the village farmers who also claim their
right to Gol.
