Job Description: Radiation Therapist is a health care professional specialized in delivering therapeutic
doses of radiation in the treatment of cancerous growth. Under the direction and in consultation with the
Medical Director, the Chief Radiation Therapist supervises the performance of all technologists.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides treatments for patients in accordance with the physician’s orders.
2. Helps the engineer and medical physicist perform machine’s preventive maintenance to ensure
proper operation of radiation therapy equipment.
3. Ensures effective clinical staff coverage for the practice within budgetary guidelines.
4. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates
the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
5. Implements standard radiation oncology policies and procedures throughout the practice.
7. Provides effective direction, guidance and leadership over radiation therapists for effective teamwork
and motivation and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
8. Develops performance expectations and departmental objectives for radiation staff positions to ensure
efficiency and productivity.
9. Ensures all staff members maintain licensure and are adequately trained to perform duties.
10. Works cooperatively with managers and members of other departments and ensures
teamwork and cooperation between radiation therapy staff and other practice personnel.
12. If needed on a temporary basis, performs tasks assigned to radiation therapy staff as
necessary and appropriate to area of education and expertise.
13. Assists in the development and implementation of short-term and long-range plans and
budgets based on organization goals and objectives.
17. Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of
professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and
visitors.
