A Reflective Gospel Concert: In support of the OAR Mission in Africa

The whole Reflective Gospel Concert was a
different experience for me. I was able to attend
not only one, but four of its consecutive runs. Being
part of the production team was just as tense as it
was fun. Truthfully, every time I guided the
performers backstage, I felt like I was also about to
perform. The rush, the quiet panics, the
restlessness and nervousness, I can all feel it in the
air. But all in all, I also feel as blessed and
accomplished as the performers. Not only have we
(the production team) pulled it off at the last-
minute preparations, but we were also able to
witness and enjoy the first of the many concerts
that I know will continue throughout the years.
What I personally have reflected on this concert is:
if you want something to turn out successful, it’s
important to take note that you should practice
and discipline yourself tenfold.
The part of the concert I liked the most was
when Rev. Fr. Leo Alaras arrived on the 2nd leg of the
concert and he was just there sitting among the
audience. I mean here is the composer of almost all
the beautiful songs of the choir, also singing and
listening and just as dazed as we were. Seeing his
emotional and grateful face, I knew right there and
then that the concert has delivered its purpose.
The song that got my attention was
Magnificat, also composed by Fr. Leo. Not only was
it sung beautifully, but the message of the song
reminds us that God continuously gives us
abundant grace in so many ways. And it’s time for
us to acknowledge and rejoice in His greatness
amidst this busy and tumultuous life
