In this meeting we discussed about the text of Our Son, Excellency; President Obama.
The text is a letter refers to President Obama from Mu’aumar Qaddaffi. I hate a Qaddafi
because Qaddafi wrote that a democratic society could not be built through the use of
missiles and aircraft, and repeated his claim that the rebels are members of the Al Qaeda. But
in here I will not explain about the reason of Mu’amar Qaddaffi sent a letter to president
Obama, but I want to analyze this text to textual (micro) level and contextual (macro) level.
Actually this text ever discussed in the class, but Mrs Ika gave us an assignment that is the
students have to make a journal. So in this journal I want to write again about whatever which
has discussed in the class.
1. Textual (Micro) level
a. What pronoun do/does the writer/s choose to refer to self, reader, and the issue?
- We refer to Muammar Qaddaffi and the society of libya
- Us refer to Muammar Qaddaffi and the society of libya
- You refer to President Obama, because so many sentence in the text which
refer to president Obama. For example in the sentence despite all you will
always remain our son whatever happened. And the other example is you are a
man who has enough courage to annul a wrong and mistaken action.
- I refer to Mu’amar Qaddaffi in the sentence I am sure that you are able to
shoulder the responsibility for that.

And the next meeting Mrs Ika gave us an assignment to search the example of
declarative text and than analysis that text to contextual (macro) level, this assignment is not
individual but making a group, one group consist of two person. And my group found the
example of declarative text is Niagara falls. we tried to analyzed this text. But before we
analyze this text, we ascertain that this text is really the declarative text or not. The first step
to ascertain this text is the declarative text we looking for what the definition of declarative
text from some books. And the definition of declarative text is kalimat yang bertujuan untuk
menggambrkan sesuatu, seseorang, suatu tempat, seekor binatang secara lebih spesifik atau
khusus. From this definition we could conclude that this text is really declarative text because
this text explained about the place as specific. After that we start to analyzed to contextual
(macro) level.
Contextual (Macro) level.
1. What is subject matter of the text? The subject matter of the text is Niagara falls.
2. Who is/are the author as well as the producer (s) of the text? We are not find who
the author of this text, but we just take this text from internet.
3. What social attributes attached to the writer and the producer?
4. From which point of view is this text written? In my opinion this text used the
third point of view, because this text explained about the place.
Discourse level.
1. To what genre is this text categorized? The genre of the text is declarative text.
2. How can this genre successfully represent the issue? Because the text (Niagara
falls) explain about the place as more specific.
And that is the result from our analysis, but after we start to studied, we got the other text that
is from the third group, but I forgot that text. And than Mrs Ika requested to us to analyze the
other text.

In this meeting we discussed about ”Leher Angsa” and the sensation of watching
feces in the movie. And this text used Indonesian language which has written by Ade
irwansyah.
He related the feces with literature. uh!!! It is so disgusting. There is metaphor in
phrase like “Leher Angsa”. This text makes the contradictory fact.
Leher Angsa is a film which has produced by Alenia Pictures. This film relate about
the habit of society in Nusa Tenggara Barat who usual waste the feces carelessly in the river.
In my opinion the writer contra with this film, we can see from this parts of text.
….Saya sadar, leher angsa dibuat dengan niat baik dan adegan tinja balapan itu
semata ingin mendapat efek komikal dari penontonnya. Saya juga bisa membayangkan,
konon Nia Zulkarnaen terpingkal-pingkal ketika pertama kali membaca scenario Musfar
yasin ini. Suaminya, Ari Shasale penasaran.
Well, persepsi orang atas suatu hal bisa berbeda-beda. Saya menonton film ini
bareng istri. Kami terbahak-bahak melihat adegan itu sekaligus merasa jijik. Namun, setelah
berjam-jam usai nonton kami masih menertawainya.
Di sini saya berpandangan, leher angsa telah menyuguhkan sensasi nonton yang
unik. Punya adegan yang tak mungkin dilupa bagi yang sudah menontonnya, mungkin
seumur hidupnya. Berkesan tiada tara.
“Berkesan tiada tara” in this pharase, there is metaphor. Mrs. Ika said that it is
embarrassing moment, although in positive meaning.
Not only contra, but in the other line there is pro which explained by the writer. We
can see from this part of text.
…satu lagi yang berkesan, kapan lagi melihat Alexandra Gottardo, Lukman Sardi,
atau Teuku Rifnu Wikana (ikut main sebagai guru kemayu) memperlihatkan reaksi wajah
mereka ketika buang hajat. Saya masih terbahak-bahak mengingat fimnya bahkan ketika
menulis ulasan ini.
In this part, we can analyze that the writer was consoled with the film, although it is
disgusting.
