Introduction:
Kishore Biyani is the founder and group CEO of future group. Widely credited as
the pioneer of modern retail industry in India, Kishore Biyani is a mentor and role model for
many Indian entrepreneurs and a thought leader in Indian business.

Future Retail operates some of India’s most popular retail chains that inspires trust
though innovative offerings, quality products and affordable prices that help customers
achieve a better quality of life every day. We serve millions of customers in more than 400

The company:
Future Group is an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra,
India. The company is known for having a significant prominence in Indian retail and fashion
sectors, with popular supermarket chains like Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar, lifestyle stores
like Brand Factory, Central etc. The group also has a notable presence in integrated foods and
FMCG manufacturing sectors. Future Retail Limited and Future Lifestyle Fashions Limited,
two operating companies of Future Group, are among the top retail companies listed in BSE
with respect to assets and in NSE with respect to market capitalization.

Future Group is a corporate group and nearly all of its businesses are managed through
its various operating companies based on the target sectors. For e.g., retail
supermarket/hypermarket chains Big Bazaar, FBB, Food Bazaar, Food Hall, Hometown etc
are operated by its retail division, Future Retail Limited, while its fashion and clothing outlets
Brand Factory, Central, and Planet Sports are operated via another of its subsidiaries, Future
Lifestyle Fashions Limited. With these many fashion outlets and supermarkets, the group also
promotes its fashion and sports brands like Indigo Nation, Spalding, Lombard, Bare etc., and
FMGs like Tasty Treat, Fresh & Pure, Clean Mate, Ekthaa, Premium Harvest, Such etc. It
also has operating companies to cater specifically to internal financial matters and consulting
within its group of companies.

The Business Environment:


41.4% of the respondents visit monthly, 28.6% of the respondents visit weekly and
11% of the respondents visit occasionally to the store. 31% of the respondents wants Big
Bazaar offers through SMS, 21% of the respondents wants Big Bazaar offers through banners
display. 50% customer visit the store with family and 43% customer visit the store with
friends, which shows that Big Bazaar is much popular among the family member of the
customers and youth.

1. Unable to meet store opening targets on time.
2. Falling revenue per sq ft.
3. General perception: ‘Low price = Low quality.
4. Overcrowded during offers.
5. Long lines at billing counters which are time consuming.
6. Limited only to value offering low price products. A no of branded products are still
missing from Big Bazaar’s line of products. E.g. Jockey, Van heusen.

Opportunities of Big Bazaar:


1. A lot of scope in Indian organized retail as it stands approximately 4%.
2. Increase mall culture in India.
3. More people these days prefers to visit big store where they can find large variety
under one roof.

Threats of Big Bazaar:


 Competition from other value retail chains such as Shoprite, Reliance Hypercity and
D mart.
 Unorganized retail also appears to be a threat to Big Bazaar’s business. A large
population still prefers to visit local convenient stores for daily purchases
 Changing Government policies.
 International players looking to foray India.
