Position Summary The TRS Investment Officer 2– Analytics & Performance will implement the data management strategy and
oversee the execution of the day-to-day data management activities for the investment program.

Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience, either directly engaged in, or in support of,
trading and/or portfolio management activities. This experience may include investment performance
measurement and analysis, investment reporting, or investment data management.
Substitutions: Successful completion of all three levels of the CFA exam may substitute for one year of
experience; a Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement designation may substitute for one year
of experience; an advanced degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, statistics,
computer science or related field of may substitute for one year of professional work experience. A
maximum of one year of experience substitution is permitted.

Preferred Qualifications - 5+ years industry experience


- Strong understanding of investment data (business perspective)
- Broad understanding of all or most aspects of investment processing (front
to back)
- Practical knowledge of data architecture, data modeling & information technology
- Good understanding of data management technologies (data warehouse, data hub, ETL, etc.)
- Experience in driving strategic initiatives, planning, budgeting and project
management
- Experience establishing & enforcing policies
- Experience working with senior management, consensus building and
executive reporting

Job Duties
Description The duties for the TRS Investment Officer 2- Analytics and Performance will include, but are not limited to,
the following:
- Serve as the data steward for NYSTRS investment data. Initially, this position will focus on public market
investment data but may include private market data over time
- Assist in the implementation of investment data governance policies and standards as approved by the
Executive Data Council in support of investment priorities and goals
- Communicate data governance goals/initiatives and strategic importance to facilitate investment wide
adoption
- Maintain conceptual data structures and descriptions of supporting data processes for all investment asset
classes
- Maintain investment data domains including:
o Security Reference
o Security Transactions
o Security Positions
o Investment reference
o Asset Allocation
o Analytics
- Monitor and provide reports on progress of data governance model implementation
- Develop and train the following data governance roles:
o Market data coordinator
o Domain data stewards
o Data consumers – end users
- Identify and validate (approve) knowledge sources (data vendors)
- Assist in the implementation of policies and standards for managing relationships with data vendors which
include:
o Track SLAs, data quality metrics, resolve relationship issues
o Coordinate acquisition of new data sources/ providers
o Review requests for new data from data consumers
o Review existing data provider capabilities, review with data owners cost/benefits
o Work with procurement on vendor contracts (new and rebid)
