Flute Tutorial

Introduction: Hi! My name is Anna Valentino and today I am going to show you how to put together a
Flute.

Goal: We are going to start by learning the different parts of the flute and then we are going to learn
how to put the parts together

Parts of the Flute: There are six parts of a Flute. The first part is the Head Joint (point) which contains
the Lip Plate and the End Pin (point). The biggest part of the Flute is called the Rod (point) and it
contains the Keys (point). The smallest part of the Flute is called the Foot joint (point).

Repeat: Again, the medium sized part is called the Head Joint (point) which contains the Lip Plate and
the End Pin (point). The biggest part of the Flute is called the Rod (point) and it contains the Keys
(point). The smallest part of the Flute is called the Foot joint (point).

Assemble Flute: To assemble the Flute, pick up the Rod (Remember, the rod is the biggest section and
has keys) and pick up the Head Joint (the medium part with the Lip Plate) and twist the Head joint into
the side of the Rod that does not have any keys by it. (Demonstrate). You want to make sure that the
Lip Plate and the keys and perfectly lined up together. Next, take your foot joint and twist it into the
other section of the Rod. (Demonstrate). There might be arrows on the side of your Foot joint and Rod
that you can line up but if there are not, you must make sure that the rail on the side of the foot joint
(Point) is directly centered in the middle of the keys on the Rod. (Demonstrate).

Repeat: Lets gently disassemble our Flute so we can try assembling them again! Pick up the Rod and
twist in the Head Joint, remember to line up the Lip Plate and the Keys. Then pick up your foot joint and
twist them together, remembering to either line up the arrows on the side or align the rail on the Foot
Joint with the Keys on the Rod.

Recap of goal: To recap, today we learned what the Lip Plate, end pin, Head joint, keys, Rod and foot
joint are, and we assembled a Flute by connecting the head joint and the foot joint to the rod (point to
all as you say them)
