LEARNING AND GROWING

Weekly Report 5 - 9/16 to 9/22

Understanding current climate anomalies and pollution trends in the environment are
crucial to help engineer solutions. After investigating pollutant contamination and habitat
degradation for the past few weeks, I came across the growing concern for easily-accessible
water purification systems. The research assessment this week consisted of analyzing
restoration devices. This helped to develop areas of interest within my research and allowed
for brainstorming for future assessments and projects.

After writing the assessment, I found that many problems associated with the
environment are also ethical and related to federal laws. Therefore, this week consisted of
composing a list of possible interviews with environmental ethics professors to help gather
information about water contamination and engineering solutions. In addition to writing a
research assessment, I designed a branded topic proposal for ISM this year. It outlined my
interests in environmental engineering.

Afterward, I began to draft questions for future informational interviews and mentor
visits. These questions help to address differing viewpoints on environmental ethics while
also gathering information about technology and terminology used by engineers. Likewise, I
looked over peer-reviews for the rough-draft resume and designed a final draft of the
resume based on the feedback.

Next week, the goal is to gather information for the Original Work proposal and begin
cold-calling professionals.
