Lick of the Month

July 2017

Here’s another 16th note triplet phrase for this month’s ‘lick’. We start this
pattern with two foot notes which always makes for a nice sound as it
disguises the ‘one’ a little and makes the following hand notes stand out. If we
change a few accents we can get multiple ‘licks’ from this one sticking.

This is the first pattern:

F F R L R L F F R L F F R L R R L L R L R R L L
6 > 6 6 > 6
œ œ œ œ œ
œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ
4
/ 4œ œ œ œ œ

Now change the second note of second group to accented snare:

F F R L R L F F R L F F R L R R L L R L R R L L
6 >6 > 6 > 6
œ œ œ œ œ
œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ
4
/ 4œ œ

This one changes the first group’s orchestration and adds an accent:

F F R L R L F F R L F F R L R R L L R L R R L L
>6 >6 > 6 > 6
œ œ
/ 4œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ
4

This is a tricky one because of the first grouping’s orchestration:

F F R L R L F F R L F F R L R R L L R L R R L L
>6 >6 > 6 > 6
œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ
œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ
4
/ 4œ œ
