With lights-off and all decorations ready, the participants are ushered into the venue while
instrumental music is played. The participants are asked to sit comfortably on the floor, keeping
some distance from each other in order to avoid distractions. The Paschal candle is placed
beside the lectern already lighted prior to the arrival of the participants. Chants and prayers are
projected on the screen located on the right side of the Taize Cross. When all have settled, Ate
Edz gives a brief orientation which will include some reminders, the general flow of the
celebration, and the manner by which everyone shall exit. After which, the choir and musicians
begin the chants without the Sign of the Cross.

III. READING Luke 24, 13-16, 25-32

A deacon will read the Gospel passage without the customary introduction and
conclusion. The reading will be proclaimed from the ambo or lectern.

Now that very day two of them were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem
called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And
it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near
and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. And he
said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the
prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and
enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted
to them what referred to him in all the scriptures. As they approached the village to
which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they
urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he
went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he
took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were
opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to
each other, “Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way
and opened the scriptures to us?”

While the excerpts are read, the English translation is projected. A slight pause is
observed between each reading.

A lector will read an excerpt of the passage in Filipino. (v. 32)

At sila-sila'y nangagsabihan, “Hindi baga nagaalab ang ating puso sa loob natin,
habang tayo'y kinakausap niya sa daan, samantalang binubuksan niya sa atin ang
mga kasulatan?”

A lector will read an excerpt of the passage in Cebuano. (v. 32)

Ug nag-ingnanay sila sa matag usa: “Dili ba nga ang atong kasing-kasing nagdilaab
man sa mainitong paghandom sa dihang nakigsulti siya kanato didto sa dalan ug sa
dihang nagpahayag siya sa kasulatan?”

A lector will read an excerpt of the passage in Capampangan. (v. 32)

Ngara king metung at metung, Inya pala balamu milablab kata pusu kabang
pakisabian na kata king dalan at lilinawan na la kekata ding Kasulatan!

Silence is observed for five to ten minutes. If the participants begin the break the silence,
the Intercessions will immediately follow. The following instruction is projected: “Let us
now spend a moment of silent prayer.”

VI. INTERCESSIONS (R. Kyrie 7)

O Christ, born of the Father before all the ages, you took upon yourself our humanity
and you rose for us: we worship you. (R.)

Son of God, Source of life, we invoke your goodness upon us and upon the entire
human family. (R.)

Allow us to live by your life and walk as children of light in the joy of Easter. (R.)

Increase the faith of your Church; may it faithfully bear witness to your resurrection.
(R.)

Comfort all who are burdened, and engrave in their hearts your words of eternal life.
(R.)

Strengthen those who are weak in faith, and reveal yourself to doubting hearts. (R.)

Give strength to the sick, support the elderly and reassure the dying by your saving

Risen Christ, through the Gospel your voice makes itself heard softly. You tell us:
“Why worry? Only one thing is necessary, a heart attentive to my words and to the
Holy Spirit.”

X. THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIGHT

At the singing of “Christe Lux Mundi”, the two youngest participants approach the
Paschal candle to light their candle from it. Then they will pass the light to the rest of the
participants.

b. Christe Lux Mundi

Christe lux mundi qui sequitur Christ, the Light of the World,
Te [she/he] who follows you,
Habebit lumen vitae, lumen will have the Light of Life, the Light
vitae. of Life.

At the end of the singing of “Christe Lux Mundi”, the prior will leave signaling the end
of the celebration. Each participant may leave or remain as they please. While the

recessional is going, the chanting will continue until all participants have exited the
venue.

c. Sa Paghigugma, Anaa ang Diyos (Ubi Caritas)

Sa paghigugma, anaa ang Where there is love, there is God.
Diyos.

d. Liwanag ng Buong Mundo (Confitemini Domino)
