Last Saturday, I learn more about the five (5) language registers,
the level of formality in language as determined by context.
Language register is the level and style of your writing. It should be
appropriate for the situation you are in also.. The use of the appropriate
register depends on the audience, the topic, and the purpose for the
communication. The five language register are frozen, formal,
consultative, casual and intimate. In formal I learned that this type of
language that I use in more formal or serious situations like, at the
school, or when talking with some important. While the frozen is
language that is always the same. For example, Lord’s prayer, and
wedding vows. The third is consultative, this is formal register when we
use in conversation. Discourse pattern not quite as direct as formal
register. In this language between friends. Words choice general and
not specific and that is casual. And the lastly is intimate, language
between lover or twins..
And also I learned that language register refers to the changes one
makes in how one speaks, depending on the audience and purpose of
the utterance. Dialect, on the other hand, refers to variations in a
language generated by region, ethnicity, gender, or other sociolinguistic
factors.
