CAMM - Computer Aided Multipurpose Machine
CAMM - Computer Aided Multipurpose Machine
CAMM is multifunctional machine controlled via the computer using CNC logic boards such as
Mach3 or Arduino. Our project is focused on creating a machine that can have multiple functions
such as simple precise drawings, milling or grinding. Precise manipulation of the head of the machine
allows many functions depending on the needs and requirements. We have managed to create the
machine with as few as possible pre-fabricated elements and with as much as possible DIY elements
found in a ordinary house. With this project we aim to bust the myth of creating functional and
necessary machinery only in high end and expensive factories. Thus proving that with effort and
strong will it is possible to create high tech modern equipment in your basement. Our aim is
providing the local craftsman with opportunity of having a High-Tech low cost machine in their
workshops.
Description & Design
We have managed to create functional machine with simple yet effective design. In order to
provide strength and functionality we have chosen wood as our main material for crafting the frame
of the machine , simple screws , bolts and nuts are used in enforcing the frame. Steel rods are used
to provide the necessary strength for the gantry part, and additional steel engraved rods are used to
provide the mobility of the axis.
The machine is capable of moving in the X, Y and Z axis using three 3.0A 57BYGH627 Stepper
Motors which are tightened in the frame each in their corresponding axis. In addition we have used
three DQ542MA 2H Microstep Drivers, 220 V/AC-12 V/DC converter power supply, Mach3 board,
and Arduino UNO. In Addition Mach3 ,Arduino Open source Software, Easel, and Universal Gcode
Uploader software are used to control and operate the machine.
