COMMON ENTRANCE TEST - 2002


Admission to Professional Courses : MBBS /BDS / BE / B.Tech. / B. Arch.
1. Applications are invited from eligible candidates for registration to the ‘Common Entrance Test 2002’ for admission to 1st year
MBBS / BDS / BE / B.Tech. / B.Arch. courses in Government, University, Regional, Private Aided and Private Unaided Engineering
Colleges, Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges in Karnataka State for the academic year 2002-2003.
2. The Common Entrance Test is the basis for admission of candidates to the first semester or first year of Government share free
and payment seats of the following courses in the professional colleges affiliated to all the Universities in Karnataka State for
the year 2002-2003 : (a) BE, B.Tech., and B.Arch. Degree courses in Government, University, Regional, Private Aided and
Private unaided Engineering Colleges, (b) MBBS & BDS degree courses in Government and Private Colleges.
The Common Entrance Test is not applicable to : (a) Candidates applying against the quota for diploma holders (both part time
and full time course), (b) Government of India nominees, (c) Those nominated by neighboring States under reciprocal quota
and (d) Management quota seats.
3. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY FOR FREE AND PAYMENT SEATS : The applicant should,
(a) for Engineering courses, have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent exam with PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY &
MATHEMATICS as optional subjects with ENGLISH as one of the languages of study and obtained atleast 50% marks in
the PCM group. (40% in the case of SC / ST / Category-I candidates).
(b) for Medical / Dental course, have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th std. or equivalent exam with PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY
& BIOLOGY as optional subjects with ENGLISH as one of the languages of study and obtained atleast 50% marks in the
PCB group. (40% in the case of SC / ST / Category-I candidates); and
(c) for admission to Medical or Dental course, have completed the age of 17 years as on 31st December 2002.
4. SYLLABUS : The Common Entrance Test will be conducted as per the I and II year PUC syllabi prescribed for
and applicable to the students appearing for the April 2002 Annual Examination conducted by the Directorate of
Pre-University Education in Karnataka.
5. SUPPLY OF BROCHURES WITH APPLICATIONS : The brochure with application form is candidate specific and
not transferable. Within Karnataka, brochures with application forms will be supplied through the schools and colleges
in which the candidates studied or appeared for 12th std. or 2nd PUC examinations upon submission of a demand draft
for Rs. 350/- to the principals in advance, drawn in favour of “The Special Officer, CET Cell, Bangalore” payable at
Bangalore. The repeater candidates and ex-students are also required to procure the brochure with application forms
through respective schools and colleges of their study or exam. The brochures can be collected in the schools and
colleges where they have submitted the D.D. on or after 15-02-2002.
Candidates who are studying or who had studied 12th std. or equivalent
For out side Karnataka candidates who want to procure the brochure by post.
exam and appeared for examination in any part of India outside Karnataka
can procure the brochure with application forms only by Speed Post, PROFORMA
by sending a self addressed cloth lined envelope of size 25 cm x 30 cm (To be filled in BLOCK LETTERS only)

The cover in which the demand draft, self addressed envelope and the filled proforma are sent should be boldly superscribed
with the words “REQUEST FOR BROCHURE” and should be sent individually to The Special Officer, Common Entrance Test
Cell, Opp. Aranya Bhavan, Sampige Road, 18th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bangalore - 560 003 by “Speed Post” only.
Out side Karnataka candidates should send their filled application forms individually to CET Cell through Speed Post and not by
any other mode. CET Cell will not take the responsibility, if the applications are sent through courier or any other private arrangement.
Note : Any request for brochures in bulk for outside Karnataka candidates will not be entertained.
6. IMPORTANT DATES : (1) Last date for submission of Demand Drafts to the principals of schools and colleges within
Karnataka : 08-02-2002. (2) Last date for reaching Demand Drafts by Speed Post to CET Cell by the candidates from
outside Karnataka : 15-02-2002. (3) Last date for submission of filled applications to principals within Karnataka : 28-02-2002.
(4) Last date for reaching filled applications by Speed Post to CET Cell by candidates from outside Karnataka : 15-03-2002.
7. ADMISSION TICKETS : Candidates who submit their applications through schools and colleges should collect their admission
tickets from the respective schools and colleges. Outside Karnataka candidates who submit their applications through speed
post will get their admission tickets to their addresses furnished in the proforma by Speed Post. Admission tickets will be
reached to the respective schools and colleges and also to outside Karnataka candidates around 25-04-2002.
8. THE ‘CET 2002’ TIME TABLE : The Common Entrance Test - 2002 will be conducted as per the schedule given below :

Kannada Language test for candidates claiming Karnataka quota under clauses 7(c) & 7(d) will be held on 11-05-2002 at 10.30 A.M. in the
premises of CET Cell. Such candidates should write Common Entrance Test 2002 in a test centre assigned by CET Cell only in Bangalore.
9. SEAT SELECTION PROCESS : This year, the engineering seat selection process will be held first followed by medical / dental
in the preliminary round. The engineering and medical / dental seat selection will be held simultaneously in the admission
round. All the seats falling to the share of the Government will be filled by allowing the candidates to select seats in the order
of rank, the details and schedule of which are furnished in the brochure. In accordance with the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme
Court of India 15% of the payment seats will be reserved for the non Karnataka quota candidates. For more details about
