Preface

In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful. All praises


be to Allah, the Lord of this world.

Fun and Fabulous English is a book intended to assist the


readers and English learners to build up daily conversation at
their daily activities and to improve their English abilities.
This book consists of five units in which the writer emphasizes
the subjects in improving vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar
and four English skills which are Listening, Speaking, Reading
and Writing including many exercises related to certain topics.

By using this Fun and Fabulous English book, the readers can
learn many English words/phrases, expressions, letters, and
job interview.

Hopefully, this book will be useful for readers and the idea
presented is expected to give contribution to the improvement
of life quality.

Noun:

A word that refers to people, places, Pronoun:

- Adverb of frequency: always, often, usually, sometimes, occasionally, barely, hardly,

4.1 BUSINESS LETTERS

A. What is a business letter?

• A business letter is sent from a business or organization to another or to an


individual.

• Business letters are usually keyed on letterhead. The letterhead can consist of the
business’ name, address, phone/fax/email, and logo.

C. Formatting a letter

The format (layout) is the visual organisation of a business letter. You can follow
many different formats when you create business letters. Be aware that there are
often differences depending upon location. The main business letter formats are:

o Style:
 Full-Block Style - All the elements are aligned to the left margin and
there are no indented lines. This is a standard block-style format that is
accepted by most businesses.
 Modified Block Style - The return address, date, closing and signature
start just to the right of the center of the page or may be flush with the right
margin. All body paragraphs begin at the left margin.
 Indented or Semi-Block Style - Similar to the modified block business
letter style except that the first line of each paragraph is indented.
o Paragraphs : should not be indented in this style of letter.
o Font style : Use a standard font style and font size i.e. Times New
Roman/Arial and 12 point font.
o Space :Single Space within paragraphs and double space between
paragraphs.

D. Major Parts of a Letter

1. Return Address: the address of the person writing the letter. Letterhead if the
letter is from a business.
2. Dateline: Complete and current date.

4. Salutation-the greeting of the letter. Example: Dear Sir or Madam:
