DAILY LESSON LOG Teacher CRISTINA V. MAQUINTO Learning Area EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE
Teaching Dates and Time SEPTEMBER 3-7, 2018 Quarter 2ND

SESSION 1 SESSION 2 SESSION 3 SESSION 4

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the historical development of
the concept of life; the origin of the first life forms; and the unifying themes in
the study of life. The learners shall be able to appreciate and value life by
taking good care of all beings, humans, plants and animals.
The learners shall be able to:
B. Performance Standards
value life by taking good care of all beings, humans, plants, and animals
C. Learning 1. The learners will be able to explain the evolving concept of life based on emerging pieces of evidence (S11/12LT-IIa-1);
Competencies/Objectives 2. describe classic experiments that model conditions which may have enabled the first life forms to evolve; (S11/12LT-IIa-2); and
Write for the LC code for each 3. describe how unifying themes (e.g. structure and function, evolution and ecosystems) in the study of life show connections among living things and how they
interact with each other and with their environment; (S11/12LT-IIa-3)
Specific Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Discuss the historical development of the concept of life including theories, experiments and evidences;
2. Describe the conditions on early Earth that made the origin of life possible and the first life forms; and
3. Discuss the unifying themes of life and how they are interconnected
II. CONTENT INTRODUCTION TO LIFE SCIENCE
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References

1. Introduce the following learning objectives using any of the suggested protocols
(Verbatim, Own words, Read-aloud)
a. I can discuss the historical development of the concept of life including theories,
experiments and evidences.
b. I can describe the conditions on early Earth that made the origin of life possible
and the first life forms.
c. I can discuss the unifying themes of life and how they are interconnected.
C. Presenting Page 169: Show students photos of organisms showing the characteristics/
examples/instances of the properties of life.
new lesson
D. Discussing new concepts Activity: Activity:
and practicing new skills #1 • Story telling. Learners will create their own story on how life started on • Nature Observation. Learners will observe the characteristics of life
Earth. and how they interact to their environment.
Key questions: Key questions:
“When and where did life possibly start?” “What are the characteristics of life?”
What are some theories and evidences pertaining to life?”
E. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills #2

F. Developing mastery Each group will be tasked to make a poster pertaining to the historical
Analysis: development of the concept of life including theories and evidences. Students
• Panel discussion. will choose the topic based on the provided list (no duplication). Guide the
Key questions: students in preparing the posters.
“What are the characteristics of living things?” A rubrics will be presented and used to rate the posters made by groups.
The topics are the following:
a. Theory of special creation
Analysis: b. Cosmozoic theory
• Think-Pair-Share. c. Theory of spontaneous generation or ‘Abiogenesis’
Key questions: d. Biogenesis Theory

g. J.B.S Haldane’s Hypothesis
h. Urey-Miller hypothesis
i. Fossils (evidence of past life, significance and important fossils)
j. Geologic time scale (emergence of life forms)
G. Finding practical Application:

skills in daily living of origin of life. concept, issue, or debate. The wording of the question depends on the desired
learning skill or level of abstraction;

abstractions about the lesson • Learners will present their output in front.
Key questions:
HOTS: “What is abiogenesis theory? Was this totally disproved by the theory biogenesis?”
I. Evaluating learning Self and Peer Assessment
Students should be provided with opportunities to assess their own learning (self-assessment) and the learning of others (peer assessment). Students can compare
their work and provide each other with feedback (peer assessment). Remind students to make specific suggestions and recommendations and what could be
improved. Ask for difficulties they encountered and strategies used to make the task easy.
