HEROES’ DAY

Assalamu’alaikum Wr.Wb.
Honorable the juries of the contest, my beloved teachers, friends all the participants, It is great
for me to join in this English speech contest. All praises be to Allah SWT, the lord of the world,
the master of the day after, the creator of everything in this universe. Peace and Salutation be
upon our prophet Muhammad SAW, who has brought us from the darkness into the brightness
and guided us into the right way of life.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In this good opportunity, I would like to deliver a speech about heroes’ day. We know that
heroism, patriotism and nationalism are very important in developing our country. Without those
attitudes, it is impossible to survive our country. This is basic thing to build the country. It’s very
important for us to have those attitudes.

My friends,
We commemorate Heroes’ Day on 10th November every year. It is the reflection
of us to appreciate the history of Indonesian people in struggling against the colonialism. It
shows that our founding fathers had sacrificed everything to build this beloved country.
Heroes’ Day was taken from the history of the battle in Surabaya. It was a fighting of our people
against Dutch and Allied forces due to the struggle of the Indonesia. The battle was the heaviest
single battle of the revolution and became a national symbol of Indonesian resistance.
Considered a heroic effort by Indonesians, the battle helped our people get international support
for Indonesian independence. In memory of the battle, 10th November is then celebrated
annually as Heroes' Day.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our people struggled to build a free country. They sacrificed everything, including their blood
and lives. They had dedicated their heroism, patriotism and nationalism for this country.
We often hear that a great country is a country which appreciates all its heroes. We know that
without our heroes’ sacrifices, our country would not be free. The independence of Indonesia
was not given by the colonialist. It was being struggled by our heroes with their blood.

My friends,
There is no more battle against colonialists now. We live in free country. But, it does not mean
that we stop fighting. As young generation we have to fulfill this freedom with good things. It’s a
part of our struggle. We have to fight against corruption, collusion and nepotism that grown up in
our country. It’s struggle too. We must keep the spirit of our heroism, patriotism and nationalism
in developing this country. We dedicate our live to our beloved country.
If we don’t care of the country who else will do it?

Ladies and gentlemen,

Let’s do the right thing from now. Don’t think only for ourselves, but think about everything for
our country. We hand in hand in making our country better. God will listen to us. God will help
us. Let’s start from our selves first. Prove it to the world that Indonesia is the best. Indonesia is
peace country!
