LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11 GENERAL MATHEMATICS

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of inverse functions,
exponential functions, and logarithmic functions.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to apply the concept of inverse functions, exponential
functions, and logarithmic functions to formulate and solve real-life problems with precision and
accuracy.
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Solves exponential equations and inequality.
I. Subject Matter
Topic: Solving exponential equation and inequality
References: Teaching Guide for SHS General Mathematics page 120 -124.
Instructional Materials: Powerpoint Presentation
CODE: M11GM-1e-3
M11GM-1e-4
III. Procedure
REVIEW: Checking of assignments
ACTIVITY (The Boat is Sinking)
Equations and inequalities will be flashed on the TV and students will choose the value of x
that will satisfy the equation or inequality. Students who will get the correct answers will
continue the game while students who will not get the correct answers will be out of the
game.
These are the equations/inequalities:
x+4=5 2x-4=8 15=2x+5 x+3>5 2x-5<19 32≠x-5
5x=25 33=x 26=x 4x>64 9y<81 1211/2=x
ANALYSIS
Guided Questions: How did you find the solution of the problems? What technique did you
use in finding the value of x that will satisfy the equation/inequality?
In solving exponential equation/inequality, we use the property for exponential equations.
THE PROPERTY OF EQUALITY FOR EXPONENTIAL EQUATION
Let a, b, and c be real numbers and a=0. Then,
ab=ac
if and only if b=c.
To solve for the value of x, the bases should be equal then equate the numerator.
Example: 5x=25 22x+1>43x+2
x 2
5 =5 22x+1>22(3x+2)
x=2 2x+1>4x+4
x>-5/4
ABSTRACTION
In solving exponential equations or inequalities, try to remember the laws of
exponents since those are basic in exponential functions.
GROUP PRACTICE: Solve the following exponential equations/inequalities.
1. 3x+1=35 3. 73x+2=49x
2. 5x+3<25

APPLICATION
The applications of exponential functions can be found in the field o biology, physics,
economics, banking and commerce, and many more.
Exponential functions are primarily used to model exponential growth and decay like
the problem you solved earlier.
Computations of compound interest and depreciation value make use of exponential
function like KAPA and ALAMCCO.
Laboratory findings show that the SARS-causing corona virus, upon reaching
maturity, divides itself into two after every hour. How many cells of the virus will be present
if it just started with just 1 cell after 4 hours? after 5 hours? after 8 hours? after 10 hours?
after 1 day?

EVALUATION
Solve for the value(s) of x.
1. 1=6x+2
2. 2x-1>32
3. x>811/2
4. 30=1+3x
5. 10=33x+1+1
Assignment
Study in advance how to graph an exponential function.
