1). Which separation techniques will you apply for the separation of the following?
(a) Sodium chloride from its solution in water.
(b) Ammonium chloride from a mixture containing sodium chloride and ammonium chloride.
(c) Small pieces of metal in the engine oil of a car.
(d) Different pigments from an extract of flower petals.
(e) Butter from curd.

2). Explain the following giving examples.

3). (i) Why is it advised to tie any luggage kept on the roof of a bus with a rope? (2)
(ii) Why it is advised not to come out from a moving bus? (1)
4). Differentiate between striated, unstriated and cardiac muscles on the basis of their structure and
site/location in the body. (3)
5). Draw a labelled diagram of a neuron. (3)
6). Name the following.

7). A bullet of mass 10 g travelling horizontally with a velocity of 150 m s–1 strikes a stationary wooden
block and comes to rest in 0.03 s. Calculate the distance of penetration of the bullet into the block. Also
calculate the magnitude of the force exerted by the wooden block on the bullet. (3)

8). An object of mass 1 kg travelling in a straight line with a velocity of 10 m s–1 collides with, and sticks to
a stationary wooden block of mass 5 kg. Then they both move off together in the same straight line.
Calculate the total momentum just before the impact and just after the impact. Also, calculate the Velocity
of the combined object. (4)
