What is
Nipah Virus
Nipah virus (NiV) infection is a newly emerging zoonotic disease.
The virus can be transmitted from animals to humans and then
among humans too.

The natural host of the virus are fruit bats.

Signs and Symptoms


These signs and symptoms can progress to coma within 24-48 hours.

Encephalitis Fever Headache Drowsiness Respiratory Disorientation


Illness & Mental Confusion

The mortality rate is almost 75%

Prevention -
Nipah virus infection can be prevented by the following:
Avoiding exposure Do not drink Toddy/Neera/ Avoid consuming fruits
to sick pigs and bats Kudneera (raw date palm sap) bitten by birds or animals

Maintain personal hygiene and Preferably use N95 mask while Consult a Doctor immediately
wash hands as often as possible travelling/ in public places in case you have any symptoms

There is no vaccine for either humans or animals against NiV


Please seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the above symptoms.
